CAL adds Tampa to growing flight service
(CNS): For the first time in 18 months Caymanians will fly directly to Tampa, Florida, with a Saturday service starting from 16 October, as Cayman Airways starts to increase its flights. CAL published its new schedule on Friday, which includes a weekly Thursday service to La Ceiba, five flights a week to Miami and three to Kingston.
The Miami flights will operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, while flights to Jamaica will operate on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Officials from CAL said they were still hoping to add Cuba but they have not yet received the go-ahead from Havana to re-commence that service.
So far there are no confirmed details on when other international commercial carriers will be returning to the Cayman Islands.
Returning travellers still need to quarantine for between seven or 14 days, depending on their vaccination status but there are increasing indications that government is targeting November for lifting isolation requirements for verifiably and fully vaccinated passengers.

Get rid of quarantine for CDC vaccine card holders who test negative for covid-19. I want to come see you from Tampa.
CAL adds Tampa. People use it leave and never come back. Will the last person leaving Cayman please turn out the lights so the turtles can mate?
C A L Should been flying to Tampa instead of Miami in the last 20 months, for there was less covid 19 than miami.
We need some new destinations out west!! Like Los Angeles and San Francisco!!
Wish, hope and pray C A L stop changing the times in their schedules from Brac and back from Grand. For Brackers have Doctor appointments and it really messes them up big time.
SO, let me see, if I understand, now CAL, will fly to a state with one of the highest rates of covid, anti mask, and anti vax to bring them to Cayman… Sounds like a sound idea, if you want a bunch of Death sentences here to spread their disease, like covid and misinformation…
Don’t you get it yet? Covid is not a disease that just the tourists have. FFS. Residents can get it ( and have), expats can get it ( and have)…the whole world has covid. It is not just a disease that a tourist has.
Covid is in CAYMAN. It is there already. You are not covid free. It is there. Learn to live with it.
you mean like herpes…???? ffs
Or anthrax even
Any known viruses. HIV/AIDS and Syphilis, too.
Nope, that is world wide, too.
When will JFK flights start?
This is a good point. To my knowledge, NY has much better vaccination rates than FL.
Yeah, good for them. Bring the effin prices down ya robbing ********!
CAL finally have the aircraft range and interruption flexibility to look at better routes, and they slot back into the same routine. Need some fresh brains at that airline/travel time.
Would love to see flights to Orlando.
They used to fly to Orlando but it was seasonal.
Tampa is 45 min from orlando.
It will be interesting to see if CAL flights manage to ‘prime the pump’ of getting other carriers to start flying to Cayman again. Nature abhors a vacuum and businesses rightly abhor seeing their competitors making money where they are not. (Given the prices people say CAL are charging for the numbers people say they are flying there would seem to be ‘money on the table’ for the other carriers.)
At this point it seems the whole point is to allow CAL to operate as a monopoly. Their prices prove it.
Exactly and that was always the case, a few businesses in Cayman are profiteering/ price gouging from Coviid-19. Cayman Airways is one of them and its allowed by Givt. No consumer protection and lets not forget they have 3 MAXX 8 airplanes here at a cost of $ 400 million each to the public purse, so it isn’t a secret why a RT to Miami is $731. Ridiculous!!. Its going to be a lot of suffering here in Cayman before all is said and done with this PLANDEMIC
Checked the Tampa fare for October 16th-30th and it came up under USD$400, including tax.
I am sure the Miami fares will level off over time once more flight frequencies are introduced.
you US$400 for a 90 min flight is reasonable?
doubt you have ever been to europe.
In Europe it would cost $40! The prices are outrageous
The Max aircraft are leased and not owned.
…and as a public-funded utility, we should note that the lease terms signed by Moses Kirkconnell are redacted, and that the airline paid leases every month for years even while they were grounded as “unsafe” because presumably there was no insurance. Who knows how much these cost.
I don’t know where this guy is getting his numbers. RT tickets are less than $400. And $400M for leased aircraft???
We aren’t even getting loyalty credits.
The only airline that doesn’t feel they need to pass along the CIAA fees they collect from ticket sales. It’s about 30% of total sales. Where does it go? You can set your watch to the gov’t budget reshuffles every 3-4 years that masks this business tradition.
The US is planning on opening its borders to international travel early next month. My Caymanian-American family is fully vaccinated and so ready to finally, safely travel to another land. We’re to excited about our shopping trips, new sceneries, and making memories together- just like old times. We pray for the antivaxxers, and appeal to everyone travelling to traverse the world safely. Remember to get your required two doses of COVID-19 Vaccine and a Booster Shot, if necessary. Also, follow the COVID-19 protocols when outdoors or interacting with people outside your home: Wear a face mask, wash your hands often, & practice 6ft social distancing in public spaces.
So excited 😆💓
News for you – US was open to travel from Cayman all along. It’s just opening to Europe next month.
Full vaccination ✅
Fewer restrictions check ✅
No lockdown periods ✅
“We outta here” 😊
Get ready to bring it in from Floriduh.
Get vaccinated people.
The irony of someone from West Bay called “Big Bobo” calling people from Florida stupid.
The irony of someone with no name calling someone with a name stupid. At least Big Bobo does not hide and we in West Bay know who he is, Anonymous.
Finally the new CAL Board has some brains. Best decision CAL made.
Busch Gardens is in Tampa.
I think Bush Gardens is in West Bay. 🙂
Hello quarantine! Hello free food and hotel stay! Thank you “taxpayers”. Nice to live in paradise.
Only free for CIG employee and youths returning from college.
The rest of us pay for accommodation and food.
Don’t think it’s free for gov employees….
Thank goodness we can get some normalcy back.
Only Sat? That rules out a weekend trip then!
Fly to Miami to get back. US airlines are up and running.
7 day quarantine rules out a weekend trip.
Open the border! Get rid of the quarantine! Accept the CDC vaccination card!
Somebody wants to see Tom Brady play.
Me
I must congratulate CAL. increasing flights, destinations and passenger numbers when so may airlines are struggling. How do they do it?. Perhaps it is their system for allowing passengers with a positive Covid test to board flights to our homeland.
P.S. We still wait to hear from Mr Whorms who promised a speedy and thorough investigation of this new Covid policy which he knew nothing about.
How do they do it? Simple. Unlike other airlines they are not required to make a profit – open cheque book from the tax payer.
Yes! Tampa!
Hello Walmart, TJ Maxx, Cracker Barrell and Bush Gardens!
I can’t wait!
You mean Busch Gardens.
Bush Gardens is in West Bay.
A whole adventure. Nice.
Who wouldn’t want this after all we’ve been through & continue to go through.
Now, the things/life & vital systems are improving 👌 its a pleasure to speak of and look forward to travel & shopping trips.
8;34 am, you should have live here in the fifties then you would know how many travelling you would have done. Be thankful for what we got now, TV, internet, smart Phones, etc. etc, etc.
You must be great company on holiday. Sounds horrendous going abroad to spend your time with obese Americans in large out of town cheap stores
So smug.
Das how I know you’re a troll. Every Caymanian knows how to spell “Busch” Gardens teedee.
