Call goes out for royal gong nominees
(CNS): The governor’s office is putting out a call for nominations for the Queen’s Birthday Honours for next year. Members of the public are asked to name people who have made an exceptional contribution to the Cayman Islands or who stand out for sustained achievement and service in public life. Officials said they are looking for people who are still actively involved in making life better for other people or being outstanding at what they do.
The various royal gongs are awarded to people who have made a difference to their community or the country or for displaying moral courage. They can be working in a range of fields, such as the arts, science, education and sport.
Nomination forms and guidance on submitting nominations can be found here.
The deadline to receive nominations is close of business on 29 October.
Nominations can be sent by email to GovernorsOffice.Cayman@fcdo.gov.uk
or dropped off at the reception desk at the Government Administration Building, addressed to the Governor’s Office.

Well of expat be the case, I know a few pink ladies who deserve a certificate badge of honor for quietly and consistently volunteering and serving our community for decades. They still are going above and beyond every day
And we will not stop until the awardee rate surpasses the vaccination rate.
IMO, witnessing Covid press releases for 1.5 years, Dr John Lee has behaved as if he were already a Knight of the Realm for the people of Cayman. Perhaps an act of redemption, who knows. His boundless patience, grace, and tact at moments where most of us would have lost it qualify him for recognition. OBE nod would be deserved for sure, and well below his rank in my mind.

Dr. Lee is not, at this point, now worthy of any more awards or honors.
If Dr. Lee did not act unlawfully, in relation to the Doctors Express case, then it might be different, but it’s not.
He was doing his job!

No, doing your job deserves no gong, doing it contending with exceptionally trying and at times ignorant people gets you one gong. If he wanted one for doing his job he would have needed to stick it out for the long term. The truth is he was over-honoured, and too soon. Should have received an MBE for getting the immediate situation under control, with an OBE planned for the end of his successful tenure. Anyone who got an MBE should have received a Cert. Hon. Anyone who received a Cert. Hon. should have received a special COVID response certificate. All were over-honoured, all too soon, for too little.

A posthumous award to Dr Roy who saved us from going down the drain like Jamaica.
The kids who clean beaches while adults write comments criticizing it.
The adults, for the most part, should focus their criticism on the underlying billionaire developer that owns much of this littered undeveloped coastal area, that the developer likes to pretend they don’t own – through an elaborate maze of corporate proxy names – and then abandons it in such condition that kids feel compelled to organize and spend their leisure time doing it for him with their volunteer hands, sweat, bites, burns, and cuts. When the developer already has an obligation to do it, and should be ordered to clear and maintain the areas, with armies of full-time crews that they should have hired years ago to comply and create sustained employment opportunities, often with all the mechanical support equipment for the exercise sitting idle in hangers they also own – sometimes immediately across the road from the beach being cleared by civilian volunteers. It’s the billionaire that disrespects these kids, not the adults calling the developer out.

Expats can and do receive awards, including honourary awards.
