Vaccine take-up slow as clinic opens to all
(CNS): Following the replenishment of Cayman’s Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine supply from the UK last week and the clinic opening on Monday to everyone over the age of 12 for either a first or second shot, officials revealed that just 214 people got their first jab during the second day that the clinic was open to all.
Government is now playing catch-up on the vaccination rate since the previous administration had been basing its calculations on a much lower population estimate. But although a new Vaccine Challenge is underway, the expected surge following the new supply and clearance for children over 12 to be vaccinated has not yet materialized.
According to Public Health officials, 67% of the population has had at least one dose and approximately 59% have completed the two-dose course, well short of the hoped-for target of around 75% of the population being fully inoculated.
Meanwhile, although there were no new cases reported among today’s test results, the patient with symptoms of the disease remains in hospital and another two people among the 19 active cases are suffering symptoms of COVID-19.

Make it mandatory that businesses give a day off with pay for employees to get vaccinated. My employer does, we actually get two days, one for the jab and one to recuperate. And everyone is vaccinated.
Let’s face facts, travel was the carrot. And all the people who believed our Government that we would open if we reached our ever shifting target have already been vaccinated. So what is the carrot now? A burger? A raffle? Not enough of an incentive. Better to state a firm reopening date. Then charge for vaccination after said date.
As of the end of the day Friday 18 June government reported that 87517 doses of vaccine had been given. As of the end of the day yesterday Thursday 24 June government reported that a total of 90484 vaccine doses had been given.
The fact that almost 3,000 vaccine doses were administered in one week is fantastic! Hopefully we can repeat that every week for the next 4 weeks which would get us very close to the target.
what will happen when we reach the ever-changing target????
can someone tell me?
In the coming 3,6 to 9 years we’ll see if there is any long term side effects from taking it.
Just answering your question honestly.
At the current rate more than 2000 vaccinations will be accomplished this week. If that can be maintained we are well on our way to 75% fully vaccinated.
So why is it again that the Government did not want to put forward a September opening date? We can reach the required number by then to allow a safe opening rather than this nonsensical 5 day quarantine with all the confusion regarding children and non Cayman/UK vaccine certification.
Over 500 got their vaccinations today despite the terrible weather. That is positive.
Probably because there was little else to do!
Of course it is slow. There is no real upside to getting vaccinated. And there is no real consequence for not doing so. No freedom to travel, no tangible benefits. Why bother. Our moronic government isn’t doing anything to help the country, rather they open to the UK? State an opening date, make real changes, provide a non-whopper incentive to people. All of the people benefiting from the reduced quarantine are already in the vaccinated demographic. Duh!
So true. Open the borders. Vaccinated can travel only. Unvaccinated in masks and social distancing, in fosters Kirk the beach and in bars etc.. That’s essentially what the uk and Europe have done and it works. Look at the statistics.
The carrot always works in Cayman, offer them $100 and they will be lining up around the long term carpark.
Manitoba, Canada is giving away free ganja for people who get the jab! Heck, if they did that here they would get that huge demographic here all vaccinated and really get the numbers up!! LOLOL
They’d get a 100% if it we’re alocohol. Accidents would go back up though.
CNS – I am not convinced that the vaccination turnout is all that bleak, particularly if the Tuesday and Wednesday figures are looked at.
The government’s Covid vaccination update for Monday 21 June states that 88,911 COVID-19 vaccinations had been given in total as of the end of Monday.
The government’s Covid vaccination update on Tuesday 22 June indicates that; 89,619 COVID-19 vaccinations had been given in total by the end of Tuesday, an increase of more than 700 for one day.
The Covid vaccination update of Wednesday 23 June indicates that “90,323 COVID-19 vaccinations have been given in total”
That indicates that over 700 vaccinations were given on Wednesday alone.
I would say that is a very good result and based on the numbers I saw lined up to get their vaccinations in Bodden Town last evening, the move to offer vaccinations at convenient times in all of the outer districts is paying off.
For anyone interested, the daily vaccination information is published here:

At this rate it appears it is going to be nearly impossible to reach CIG’s targets. And based on the comments on here, perhaps they should consider some sort of door-to-door education campaign on how the vaccine is safe and effective. Because at this point it seems like we are only staying closed because of the uneducated and misinformed. It’s understandable why people are so angry about that.
Door-to-door education campaign during a pandemic?
Sound logic coming from someone educated on the matter… I think that vaccine has gone to your head, literally.
IDK where you live, but there is literally no COVID-19 in the local community.
I wonder what we did to ensure that? You really wanna play this game?
There is literally no COVID-19 in the local community.
Then why do I need the covid 19 vaccine?
Sheep just act they don’t think.
If I was to cover myself head to toe in anthrax and try to walk through an airport on to a plane it’d be called bioterrorism but it’s called travel time for the infected with covid even though covid has killed magnitudes more than anthrax and continue to do so
Boi u fool fool.
Because you need to think about health tomorrow, not just today.
Health tomorrow?
What are the long term effects of the current covid 19 vaccininations currently in phase?
Anyone?
Can anyone answer that question please? If not, keep your vaccine “facts” to yourself because this cat won’t buy what anyone’s selling.
Open the border up to the vaccinated and continue to abide by quarantine protocols.
What’s the problem?
There is no data on side effects past 6 months at this time. This is a valid concern to have but its unlikely the vaccine will cause any negative long term side effects.Given the sheer number of vaccines administered to date, common, uncommon and rare side-effects would have been detected by now. What’s more, we’ve been testing these vaccines in clinical trials since mid-2020, and the Pfizer vaccines have shown excellent safety results. Just because there is no covid currently in the community right now doesn’t mean that it will never find its way here.
An over the counter drug Ivermectin has gone through clinical trials as well and doesn’t require an injection or was made with gene therapy.
The hypocrisy is the uneducated mainly the vaccinated spewing none sense about how we need to think of health tomorrow but, have no idea what they all allowed to be put inside their own body or, what damage it could do long term to combat a virus that has no community spreading here on the Island.
Can’t make this up. You are all sheep lining up for the trials literally.
You can preach all you want that it is safe and effective but no one actually knows. Not even the “health professionals” who are jabbing you lot.
We do know. Clinical trial data, real world data and many many studies both completed and underway prove how safe the vaccine is.
No we do not, even the medical profession says the long term effects are unknown.
If it was so safe, people would not be having the reactions that they have thus far.
What reactions? Extremely rare, 1 in a million severe side effects? If the vaccine causes you any real harm, buy a lottery ticket because that’s about the same odds…
Then let’s open up. I would love to see how many naysayers get jabbed when there are actually consequences for their selfishness.
Everyone gone on their summer “repatriation “ vacation already. The world has moved on.
Wait till that West Bay variant lick dem.
The Mac Attack variant we seem to never get rid of no matter how many times we’ve tried.
He falls down drunk but he gets up again, you’re never gonna keep him down…
Challenge is underway, the expected surge following the new supply and clearance for children over 12 to be vaccinated has not yet materialized.
Expected surge? Who thinks parents are going to willingly allow their children to get an experimental vaccine not yet approved by the FDA?
The educated ones will. Look closely at the people you know not getting vaccinated, notice anything?
The one I noticed was the taxi driver who took me to my quarantine house. Jamaican. Not getting jabbed.
Maybe that’s why it needs to be a requirement for renewing your work permit.
I wish the government would collect income and education stats on those who have gotten vaccinated.
It would be amusing to see if the vaccination rate of wealthy expats was over 100%.
It’s sad that you think income and education are directly correlated to intelligence or common sense. But I’m guessing you have a degree and a well paid job thus have assigned yourself as such.
You mean it’s hard to get people to inject a drug we know nothing about as far as long term effects or any other issues an experimental drug can cause for a virus which origins can’t be explained?
And there are no real benefits for me taking it in Cayman as long as we remain closed and I have my job. Now, if they set an opening date, I’d have to weigh my options. But that’s not happening for some time to come.
The ones responsible for that decision have the most weight on their plate.
No truer statement on this thread. And our fearful government knows this. They know what we need to do, but choose to hide. Cowards, not a leader in the bunch. Disgusting!
