(CNS): According to public health figures, 40,516 people have now had both shots of the COVID-19 vaccine after nearly 500 people got their second doses the first day after the Pfizer vaccine supplies were replenished. The clinic is now open again and from Monday, vaccines will be available to everyone over the age of 12 for both first and second doses, as government begins a campaign to get at least another 10,000 vaccinated as soon as possible. Although the quarantine period is due to be cut to five days next week for those who have been vaccinated, seven more travellers tested positive over the last day.

No details have been given regarding whether these positive cases are among those who just arrived or those who are ending quarantine, but it is likely that the latest batch of test results reflect Wednesday’s new arrivals, including the British Airways flight from the UK. Earlier this week public health officials said that there had been no cases of the Delta variant detected in travellers here yet.

Dr John Lee did confirm this week, however, that six people who had been vaccinated, included two people who had received their vaccine here from the HSA, have recently tested positive for the virus on return from travelling overseas. But none of these people have shown symptoms of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, there are now 19 active cases of the virus among more than 1,100 people in isolation, with three people suffering symptoms.

The WHO now recommends not giving the experimental vaccines to anyone under the age of 18.

    https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/covid-19-vaccines/advice

“Children should not be vaccinated for the moment.

There is not yet enough evidence on the use of vaccines against COVID-19 in children to make recommendations for children to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Children and adolescents tend to have milder disease compared to adults. However, children should continue to have the recommended childhood vaccines.”

Don’t pick and choose what you quote from the WHO to further your personal position. On the very same page:

WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) has concluded that the Pfizer/BionTech vaccine is suitable for use by people aged 12 years and above.

19/06 @ 2:04pm – “open the borders to vaccinated visitors”. Clearly you don’t follow the local news or perhaps you really don’t care. This week alone 5 vaccinated visitors tested positive for Covid. What if they were allowed in without quarantine? Would you or anyone you love be ready to kiss or get “real close” to one of them?

Speak up please, I didn’t hear you!!

  3. Anonymous says:

Can you take vaccines to the constructions sites please!! Out of an ask of 7 people at one job the other day, only three had been vaccinated.

Just wondering why we seem to have departed from Mother England’s recommendations for youths and vaccines.

Also would like to know what happens to borders and quarantine if boosters become necessary – as that would imply that those of us vax’d are out of protection, we closing the borders again to get everyone boosted? And knowing how long that will take, are we ever going to reopen to pre-covid times?

It’s all getting a bit silly. Its kinda like China said, hey, from now on the sun is rising in the West…we all said no way, dont be silly…but then they showed is a picture of a reverse sunset and we sh*t the bed…and now most of us are telling ourselves the sun definitely now possibly maybe might actually rise in the West…or maybe not, who knows but lets start building condo’s in east end for the sunsets

Yeah caught up with a lot of it… too many people have died because they werenā€™t vaccinated and I know a good amount personally. So excuse me if Iā€™m a little bit unfazed by your uneducated scientific exposĆ© you just posted.

The only reason CIG is keeping a 5 day quarantine and not allowing more flights is because they want to trap us here so we spend money. They are too scared that voters will be upset by allowing in tourists so they are just making it unreasonably hard for residents to leave. Itā€™s not even about covid anymore.

      Rubbish…you really that crap?

    • This will not end well says:

The Soviet Union tried to prevent their Citizens from leaving, it didn’t end well for them.

Government suggesting that Caymanians should not travel in order to support local businesses, is so disrespectful.

Persons that are vaccinated can and should travel now when cases are so low in the United States and risk is so low.

They do not own Caymanians and have no right to tell us where to spend our money. The arrogance is astonishing.

      Flights must be restored Asap.

      • Anonymous says:

At least our government is consistent. Despite the facts they repeatedly announced 800 would die. And now they donā€™t think the vaccine works. The scientific expertise Cayman thinks it possesses is incredible. World class delusion.

      • Anonymous says:

Honestly, this comment wreaks of entitlement and spoiled premature adults.

Some paper Caymanians have all of this bad mouthing to Government here but would never dare to behave this childish to the government wherever they come from.

Frankly, since you want to leave so bad, don’t come back. Don’t need the COVID.

        • Anonymous says:

Born Caymanian. 5 and 6 generations here before me. Itā€™s past time for CIG to end their restrictions. Nothing is based on science and they are pushing vaccines so hard but then donā€™t even want to trust that they work.

          • Anonymous says:

In the same boat on the same deck, my friend.

You are living in the Cayman fairytale, and I am living in the Cayman reality.

CIG, HSA, and every health office in Cayman will be sued up to the heavens, if anyone else dies from COVID, local or not. Bet the same ones trying to pull the locks off border restrictions are the same ones who will take CIG to the cleaners in court if they contract COVID because of relaxing of the same restrictions. (Hypocritical much?)

The borders were never fully closed. You can get on a flight out if you are that determined to go through the process for essential purposes.

Otherwise, people complaining need to sit down, wait until the best time to reopen arises, or simply find their next best abroad.

Every decision CIG is making on this is for everyone’s HEALTH AND SAFETY. It is not a marketing gimmick, unlike most business ploys in Cayman these days.

Besides CITA, Dart, hoteliers and developers will have a good chance to go cold turkey on their slavery addiction afforded by work permits.

The jig is up and the chickens have come to roost. There is no debate here.

Great news that they are going to be vaccinating everyone over the age of 12 despite the naysayers on here saying that this wasnā€™t possible.

It’s completely unacceptable and unethical that vaccines which have been sent for the use of the adult population are being mis-used in this way and I hope very much that the governor is held to account for this if he has knowledge of it.
These vaccines are not being administered to children under 18 in the UK precisely because the long term effects are not known. Any parent needs to take this into account before imposing this decision on a child.

      • Anonymous says:

The MHRA approved the Pfizer vaccine for 12-15 year olds saying it was safe and effective for that age group. The JCVI has yet to advise the government and they havenā€™t made a decision yet. They may want to focus on getting more of the adult population vaccinated first.

The US and Canada are already vaccinating that age group.

BBC reporting today that delta is now dominant VOC in UK; that 10% of hospitalizations are those 14+ days post second vax; and that 36% of deaths are also from that ā€œleast concernā€ category. I think weā€™d really like to know if these are all discount-AZ two dosers, and if they are all from those with comorbidities of some kind. It seems to really matter. There is a dearth of reliable data untainted by pharma-political bias. It would be nice if we could cut through it, given the importance of getting this right.

Iā€™m glad you said 6 months cause thatā€™s correct. The vaccine works and itā€™s time to open.

  16. Anonymous says:

Why is this even news anymore? The borders should be opened to vaccinated people that wait out the 2 week period and get the economy moving.

  17. Anonymous says:

I wonder what the multiplier effect would be if those 3 with symptoms were allowed in with no quarantine..that will be our reality soon, unfortunately and I worry about the un-vaccinnated particularly those with medical conditions but we must soldier on to re-opening the borders.

I just pray now that those that have not taken the vaccine for some reason other than medical will not wait until the borders are open and they are infected and lord forbid, die.

    • Anonymous says:

Well, Lord knows theyā€™ve been reminded over and over as to what the repercussions are of not getting vaccinated. Theyā€™ve been offered free protection from covid over and over, prize incentives, days off work, on and on and onā€¦..

At this point, those who refuse the vaccine for any reason that isnā€™t medically indicated are well aware of the resulting danger. We canā€™t be held hostage by superstition and conspiracy theories any longer. Open the borders to vaccinated people and then the unvaccinated refusers have no one to blame but themselves for any resulting illness to themselves.

What is your point? So the UK is still focusing on vaccinating adults. All the adults with any intelligence have already been vaccinated here so they are offering it to anyone over 12.

      • Anonymous says:

“The committee may be waiting for more safety data on children who have been vaccinated in other countries, such as the US and Israel, before making its decision.”

“for the experts there are a whole host of factors to consider, including the benefits and risks for children, as well as other wider ethical issues.”

“Children’s risk of severe disease from Covid is tiny, deaths are extremely rare and have only occurred in UK children with profound underlying and life-limiting conditions. The direct benefits to them of vaccination would be low.”

But sure, carry on ignoring these concerns and important points.

Medical opinions have been revised on children getting vaccinated.

            • Anonymous says:

This is not true. Medical opinions havenā€™t been revised but rather itā€™s two different organizations. The MHRA which regulates medicines, vaccines etc determined that it is safe for 12-15 year olds to get vaccinated. However, the JCVI which advises the government on the vaccine rollout has not recommended it because they want to focus on vaccinating adults and children are not at risk of severe disease from covid anyway. Although some experts are now saying that covid spreading in children could drive a third wave of the delta variant. Itā€™ll be interesting to see how things change as more adults get vaccinated.

      • Anonymous says:

The point is that children in the UK aren’t being offered the vaccine for ethical reasons – because its long term effects are unknown – parents need to think long and hard about this before offering their offspring up as guinea pigs just so they can travel abroad.
All adults over 18 in the UK have now been offered the vaccination.
