(L-R) Kurt Ebanks, Mitchum Wood and Otis Myles

(CNS): Three men released from prison last year on conditional release, including one man who was serving a life sentence for murder, appear to be on the run from the law. After what were said to be extensive but unsuccessful searches over the last few months p,olice are now turning to the public to help them find Otis Myles from George Town, as well as Mitchum Wood and Kurt Ebanks from Bodden Town. All three men have breached their conditional release terms.

In a press release Friday night, the police said that repeated requests to surrender at their last known addresses have been ignored.

Kurt Fabian Ebanks (44) was serving a life sentence for the murder of taxi driver Curtis Seymour in 2001 but had been released early. Ebanks has a light brown complexion, brown eyes and a bald head with long facial hair. He is of medium build and is approximately 5’11” tall. When caught and returned to jail, Ebanks could be required to serve the five years remaining on his tariff before being considered for release again.

Serial burglar and jewel thief Otis Melbourne Myles (34), who was serving a seven-year term, is described as having dark brown complexion, brown eyes, and low cut black hair with facial hair. He is of slim build and approximately 6’ in height. He will be required to serve almost two more years before his sentence is spent.

Meanwhile, 32-year-old Mitchum Kenjo Wood, another habitual offender, had been serving time for stealing the war medals of Cayman’s first governor, Athelstan Charles Long. When caught he will have around 12 more months to serve. He is described as having long black hair, light brown complexion and brown eyes. He is of slim build and approximately 6’ tall.

All three men were urged to hand themselves in to the Cayman Islands Detention Centre or the nearest active police station at any time of day or night.

Police also warned anyone who maybe assisting the three men that it is against the law to obstruct, mislead or act in such a way as to prevent the apprehension of a person who has committed an offence.  If convicted, it carries a maximum fine of $5,000 or imprisonment for two years.

Police asked anyone with information about the men to call George Town Police Station at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website.

They should have had to rot in prison. These types of crimes should have disqualified them for early release.

A life sentence should be just that…a LIFE sentence. This means the rest of your life. Until you die. End of story.

More ideal would be a DEATH sentence for murderers but that option was taken away from us in the name of “human rights”. The powers that be claim it isn’t a deterrent, and maybe in big countries it isn’t, but here where you are either related to the criminal/know the criminal/know people that know the criminal…it would be impactful.

It cant be that bad. You hear about any manhunts????

Still, less of a threat to society than certain MPs

Indeed, the Bible, a historical work I respect, does say if a person murders, the state should sentence that person to death. Where we go wrong, is with the evidence. Alot of innocent people been sentenced to death. But now today with DNA, CCTV and a huge finger print global system that gives us hardcore evidence, it is just plain stupid to oppose the death penalty and have these persons waste tax payer’s monies.

Poor Mitchum, he was in my year, and even from middle school, you knew where he was going end up. Why is there no intervention when it’s clear the path they are on leads to destruction?

Cayman gives these types 30% off for pleading guilty and then another 50% off if they don’t kill anyone in prison and then lets them loose with no warning to the people. I guess this is to save money and effort for the prosecutors, judges, prison guards, etc. Anyway, they get released when they are still hardened criminals, and they are still young enough to run wild. This justice “scheme” is not working, but the authorities continue to pretend that it’s the best way when really it’s just the easiest way and no one has to take responsibility. One of the main benefits of jail is that it keeps them away from the rest of us. Slow down the revolving jailhouse door and we will all be better off, including the criminals.

    OLD TIMERS.
That’s the problem right there. The Bible. Which of the 395 versions do you believe in?
People still believing the most printed work of fiction on the planet is something we should live our lives by is incredible in the year 2021. Absolute nonsense. I mean how could anyone believe that some man cut a few lines in the bark of a tree and that a few horses mated in front of it and their offspring were born with black and white stripes and then we had Zebras.
Now then, on to the bad boys. Firstly, the police have nothing to do with releasing prisoners. The judicial system dictates all on when these inmates are released.
I believe it should be mandatory to inform the public when any inmate is being released whether they have served their full sentence or not. We the public are the victims of these sociopaths. Their mugshots should be made available to the public when they are sentenced and when they are released.
The Death Penalty is the only proven way of stopping human scum from repeating the act of murder. Rapists should face the same penalty.

Oxymoron : Rehabilitation of serial offenders.

Note – Japan has the world’s lowest murder rate, and they have death penalty by hanging on their books. We keep following the British and take a murderer for grant, giving them long court trials, housing them to corrupt the other cell mates at Northward. When are we going to learn to follow the Bible’s clear cut instructions, whoso deliberately “sheds a man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed.” Its not the question of whether they repented of their sins. It is the question of simply following what the book says. But noooo … we hear many dissing the book, which they can’t even understand … then we must feed these murderers, fester them, and then have to release them on probation into our society BECAUSE WE ARE BEING CRUEL AND UNUSUAL. 🙄 This is not true Justice!

I don’t believe the Bible is a document meant to be taken literally, nor do I feel that our 21st century legal framework in Cayman should be based on a collection of writings from a desert community 2000 years ago. #respectfully

If God exists, he or she or it, or them or whatever, doesn’t need you running around telling other people how to think, much less promoting executions.

By Christian logic the best way to discourage murder, is to murder. Cause that’s, CHRISTLIKE.

      Smh

Well sonny or madam, i just believe that part of what the Bible seh. I am not a Christian. Fyi, the British penal code law has biblical roots way before ypur or my time

It’s despicable seeing the double standard of ultra right wing Cayman Islands pretend they are left wing when it comes to US politics such as open boards and raise personal and corporate taxes. Apply that to Cayman and see what happens with thousands of illegal immigrants coming to Cayman and offshore business leaving island.
Oh but please keep having FAKE news CNN playing inside the retail banks – what hypocrite jokes you are

    • Anonymous says:

      You are beyond help.

      • Anonymous says:

Oh yeah let’s see the hypocrisy:
USA stopping illegal immigration- oh that’s racist in most Caymanians eyes.
Cayman had 100% strict legal Immigration only – oh that’s not racist for stopping illegal immigrants that’s common sense.
How about abortion clinics – is that sexist or raising personal and corporate taxes to 35%. STFU you’re living in an ultra right wing utopia

Well I hope they have left the country by boat. Now we no longer have to look after them. One day they will likely turn up dead in a neighbouring country.

Where was the press release when they let the murderer out? It would be safer for the rest of us to know this.

Where is the manhunt??? I cant get no body to answer me?

    • Anonymous says:

Unfortunately plenty of them are let out and public hasn’t been told anything and thats sad till they end up infringing just like now we hear about it

  14. Anonymous says:

Conditional release? Wtf? How bout they serve the whole sentence before release. And how about now you tack an extra 5 years on their azzes. At least 5.

  15. Anonymous says:

You tag travellers but not murderers?! But seriously, I often wonder how so many people get lost on an island 22 miles long!

    • Billions says:

Because people are looking after them, and people do not do the right thing anymore!

    • Billions says:

They don’t get lost. They get released and break their conditions! It’s down to them! People look after them! Everyone is given a chance and they have proven to this society that they can’t take the responsibility. It’s not the police or the court that should be criticized, it’s the individual and the people that are protecting them!
Look at the examples in leadership in this world and you wonder why people do not conform!

  16. Anonymous says:

So these are the type of characters that are being given “early release”? This is nuts!

  17. Anonymous says:

Deport them! Oh, er, they’re sons of the soil. Sorry bout dat.

  18. Anonymous says:

Killed a poor cab driver…that means that one is capable of killing anyone he meets. Why is he not locked up? How long did he actually serve for that murder? The police and courts need to get serious about crime. The police in particular have to start acting like police and cut out the three stooges routine. A lot of what is reported sure looks like neglect of duty. Does the RCIP enforce any discipline at all?

Unbelievable, well actually it is totally believable.

My thoughts exactly! Way to get the word out in a timely fashion…..not!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • Anonymous says:

      It’s not the Police.

They were in prison so it’s the court who allowed their early release, and the court who wants these guys back.

The Police are only tasked with trying to catch them.

      • Anonymous says:

The Police have been looking for them ‘…over the last few months..”. So sorry you’re wrong on this particular point. The public have a right to know about these things immediately.

Which senior manager(s) in the RCIPS have been asked to tender their resignations for the disgraceful mismanagement issues of this last week? Do they not want to pretend to shore up public confidence in this public-funded gravytrain?

It’s not the fault of rcips that they were released. They’ve got enough to deal with without tracking down moronic men who were given get out of jail cards.

CNS – when you say “last few months” how long ago do you mean? Have they been running about like this for ages and the RCIPS in all their wisdom are just now admiting to it?

CNS: That’s a direct quote from the RCIPS in the release sent out Friday late evening.

  32. Anonymous says:

RCIPS finest at their best again.

Missing for months and only now they are coming to the public seeking assistance.

How bad does it need to get before we all realise that there is absolutely no accountability in this morass of incompetence and corruption.

    • Anonymous says:

You for real? RCIPS ask for help immediately it’d be “so the public are doing the police work now???”

They don’t ask, they get pilloried.

The circles these scumbags move in are not big on communicating with authorities.

It’s pretty easy to go under the radar here.
