Crash on Wednesday

(CNS): Police are investigating yet another dangerous collision on Cayman’s roads after a driver ended up in the sea following a collision with a light pole at the Frank Sound, Bodden Town Road junction. The soggy smash happened at about 5:45pm on Wednesday, when a black Ford Edge collided with the pole and flew into the sea after hitting the boat ramp and overturning. Bystanders were said to have pulled the two occupants from the car before the emergency services arrived.

Both the driver and passenger were taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment, where the driver remains in a stable condition. The passenger has since been treated and discharged.

This is just the latest in a string of serious accidents since the start of the year.

On Sunday Cuban migrants on the scene rescued a West Bay man from a burning vehicle that he had driven into a wall. This was just hours after another West Bay man was killed in a crash, in which a vehicle smashed into a house in the district. This all follows close to 250 crashes, both minor and major, throughout December.

Do The Cayman Islands have any sort of Driver’s Education? It is mandatory in Vermont, in the U.S. My wife and I are very fond of the Cayman Islands and have visited all 3. As we come close to retiring we’d like to spend more time there. We stopped renting a car on Grand Cayman as it has gotten much busier over the last few decades and driving becomes a chore. When I read the above graphic that there had been 250 crashes in December alone, I was astonished. You folks have lovely Islands with such nice, friendly people that suffer tourists wonderfully. Safe driving starts with respecting your fellow driver(s) and the power that one is being entrusted with. Driver’s Ed is a very good place to start.

Unedumacated drivers are more deadly than Covid.

Thank goodness it never snows down there.

For once, this was not an irresponsible idiot. it was a decent guy with a genuine medical condition. Really hope he gets well soon and glad to hear he is OK.

Maybe like The Simpsons – Grand Cayman should build a monorail.

This was very unfortunate accident and blessed that no one else was hurt. The crash happened because the driver may have suffered from a possible seizure. Hope and pray he recovers

How fast was the clown going though in the first place? Seizure or not they were obviously speeding.

      • Anonymous says:

People that have seizures should not be allowed to drive, period

      • Anonymous says:

Do you know what happens when someone has a seizure while driving? This is not a reckless driver. In fact he always drives really carefully. I know we have way too many idiots on the road but this guy is just not one of them.

If he has a history of seizures then he is screwed on insurance and DVDL should have revoked his license.

It has to be something unusual. It’s hard to visualize how this could even hsppen.

Have you ever seen how people drive here? I can’t believe these idiots don’t end up in the water more.

How much does this end up costing us, does CUC get reimbursed the full cost of replacing the pole?

The standard of driving in this country is abysmal.
Seriously. total balloon heads behind wheels of killing machines. no sense in their heads at all.
if their brains were dynamite they wouldn’t have enough to blow their hats off.
I put my life into their hands every time I go out I feel.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the light pole and its family.

It is usually an Accord or Civic that pulls these types of stunts, flying through the air after striking poles & rock walls , but now a boat ramp & also if that was not enough , a Ford ? I am officially gob-smacked.

  9. anon says:

I think these light poles are really dangerous, they keep getting in the way of our motorists. In this case the driver obviously needed to cool off.
