Cayman Islands COVID-free once again
(CNS): The two people who had been in government quarantine who tested positive for the coronavirus last month have been given the all clear, returning Cayman to its COVID-free status once more. On Tuesday Dr Samuel Williams-Rodriguez, the medical officer of health, reported 105 negative test results on samples processed over the last day. Cayman has now carried out over 35,500 test with just 205 positives.
The last positive case of community transmission was on 11 July, leaving public health officials confident that while the virus continues to rage around the world, it has been contained within our borders.
All returning travellers are currently required to spend 14 days in mandated isolation and there are 245 in government quarantine facilities or in home isolation under medical supervision for other health related reasons.
Government is still planning to reduce this requirement if the plan to reopen the border on 1 October remains on track. The tourism ministry is expected to test out the bio-buttons and geo-fencing tags, which are set to replace the current arrangements, on travellers arriving on the first British Airways regular fortnightly service later this month.
Premier Alden McLaughlin was expected to host a briefing this week to update the media and the public on the border reopening plans and how the authorities here plan to keep Cayman’s COVID-free status, but so far no date has been set.

Most likely would have stayed free if there was a requirement for pre-testing 72 hours before the flight!
I managed to get a booking on this month’s airbridge flight to Heathrow returning next month. No problems on arrival in London, but will I get back. I need a letter of permission from Travel Time before I can board the return but have to wait to apply for it until a week before.Same with a covid, I need a negative test no more than 3 days before departure On arrival In Cayman I need a “bio-button”, a geo-fencing tag, a temperature test and presumably if able to self isolate, agree to being monitored daily.
I understand the need for stringent measures on incoming flights but we really need Government to let us know before we depart exactly what will happen on our return (if we get permission). The measures I have listed are what has been suggested, but please Mr Premier let us know exactly what the rules will be before we leave on the 18th.
You’ll be doing the 14-16 days in HMP Holiday Inn
BS..
doesn’t matter anymore. cig will import more cases and the cycle goes on.
the cayman is economy has been decimated and cig is broke….but still no plan form do-nothing-ppm
I really hope that the Priemer does NOT open up to.people from Jamaica. For over there the c-virus is raging. Some one said they heard 75 people was coming today from Jamaica. I really hope thats not true.
Wow and the chances of any of the 75 people having it are almost 0.
Think everyone needs a reality check there is only 7M active cases estimated in the works that’s .008% of the population.
In your fearful mind.
There goes that word again, “raging”. So many experts, not one reference to actual statistics.
Exaggerate much? Yes Jamaica has had an uptick in infections, probably brought on by reopening their borders to the US and the election taking place this week. BUT compare it to the US which has an ACTIVE infection rate of 0.78% vs Jamaica’s 0.06% which is over 1,300 times worse.

Conclusion – it is not RAGING in Jamaica so you can calm down. If anyone returns to Cayman infected they will be in quarantine like any other inbound traveler
Oops edit…..13 times worse. I meant 1,300%
It fits their oppression plan narrative to have a few active cases every now and again.
Wow, we are free of the virus that even though a few hundred her have had it, no one was injured, and has caused us to destroy our economy. Well done everyone.
And yet our construction and development industries are booming and will be for at least two years. The financial services industry is undergoing a phase of growth, it may be short term, but is substantial. Tourism is the only industry suffering a direct and tragic impact, and relatively few Caymanians are suffering in consequence. The situation is awful for the many affected, but for the economy of the country overall, it is (for now) manageable.
Real estate industry is dead in Cayman right now. Those construction projects are from pre lockdown, they are struggling to sell units.
Simply not true. Real estate is very steady. Large numbers of purchases continue to be made. Millions of fresh capital is coming in from overseas buyers. Most developments underway already have funding in place. There is not enough Labour or materials to stay on schedule. Construction jobs are secure for at least two years.
And when the construction is completed in a year’s time, from finances provided in prior years, who buys? Before you answer, picture an airport closed to those who don’t already own property.
So the Premier was to have a meeting this week, but no date set as of Tuesday night. . Please read – If the plan is to open on 1 October remains on track. To the doubters of further delays to come, stop being sheep. April 2021. As for the 14 day requirement. They begin counting the day after you arrive. One gets tested on day 15. Then the wait for results. Why are simple truths not told?
How many are in “home isolation” and why. What measures are in place to monitor this “self isolation”?.
Who Cares.
People who are unnecessarily locked up in government facilities. There is a humane way of dealing with isolation.
That would only work if we can also shoot persons who breach home isolation (whether that be the person being isolated or their buddies that choose to stop by to say “Hi”.
I am not willing to risk another lockdown because someone wants to be exempt from strict quarantine and we have to “trust” them.
Well you stay locked away then till there is a vaccine or IF……the world must go on.
This is the problem with leftists. They believe anything they hear, without thinking. It’s okay to shoot someone for potentially having a virus that is unlikely to kill anyone who wasn’t going to die anyway. While some are quick to shoot, other places have solutions such as GPS tracking on the phone, two phone calls per day, etc.
This is not a left right thing. It’s people of normal intelligence who understand hyperbole as a figure of speech versus people of less intelligence who don’t.
Normal and less. That sums up your post nicely.
There are many persons in their homes isolating. Three are no community cases. Obviously there is a system that works without shooting people. But don’t let facts get in the way of your paranoia.
I agree with you 100%…My who cares was for people at home isolation and the monitoring of them. Yes there is a better way and ALL should be allowed to home isolate.
There’s this thing called trust.
This thing call trust is why the virus is raging again in the Bahamas and now Turks and Caicos. Residents were trusted to self isolate and did not. Turks and Caicos that were on the same track as we were with infections before they reopened a few weeks ago now have over 500 cases and 3 deaths. Not all people can be trusted to inconvenience themselves for two weeks for the greater good of everyone.
You do realize the more time that passes, the likelihood of deaths increases, even by “Covid”? Please define raging. Actually, don’t bother – you likely cannot so so in a satisfactory manner.
You speak BS about the Turks and Caicos. It has NOTHING to do with the reopening to tourists….It was spreading in the community as the local economy was re-opened months ago! This is because the LOCALS could not social distance, and had parties. NOTHING to do with opening the airport and in fact the tourist can travel inter islands but local can not.
But note one thing they are open and only 2 people in hospital and have a lot of tourist. The Turks and Caicos has proven pre-testing works.
As for the Bahamas AGAIN it was the locals that caused it not the tourists.
Can you not read? Did I say anything about tourists? I said RESIDENTS. The airports were also opened to residents. THe BS is with you.
Dont know how many, but we know there are some. And clearly the measures are working as there is no community spread.
