Diamond Princess, cruise ship owned by Princess Cruises, quarantined off Japan

(CNS): The outbreak the novel coronavus (2019-nCoV) continues to significantly affect the cruise ship industry. In the port city of Yokohama, Japan, the number of confirmed cases on board the Diamond Princess, owned by Princess Cruises, jumped from from 70 to 130 Monday, giving the ship the highest concentration of coronavirus cases outside of China.

About 3,700 passengers and crew aboard the ship are now stuck in quarantine for two weeks, beginning on the ship’s arrival in Yokohama on 3 February, though some people may have to remain longer if they were in close contact with newly confirmed cases. Everyone on board has been asked to stay in their cabins and to wear a mask when leaving their cabin.

Princess Cruises said on Sunday it would offer a full refund to all passengers aboard the quarantined ship.

There have now been more than 40,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavus globally, but the vast majority are still in China, where the virus originated and where there have been 908 deaths. Outside of mainland China there have been more than 300 confirmed cases in 24 countries and just two deaths, one in Hong Kong and one in the Philippines.

In the Chinese province of Hubei, the centre of the outbreak, more than 800 people have died, according to regional health officials. Across China, 40,171 people are infected while 187,518 are under medical observation. So far 908 people have died in China, 97 on Sunday, the highest number of casualties in a single day.

How about RCL’s ships that continue to avoid (suckered) St. Kitts despite their brand new purpose-built EC$150mln pier? Despite Caribbean Trade Org promises, Michael Bayley reduced RCL port calls to St. Kitts by 24% and won’t use the dual ship pier they professed they needed – not even for their considerably lighter Quantum class, “Anthem of the Seas”!

Cruise ship passengers disembarking in Cayman do not have to show their passports to anyone. So how do we know whether any of the thousands of cruise shippers that come here everyday aren’t bringing Coronavirus to these shores? The answer is that we don’t know. We don’t have the slightest idea.

6:03 you dont hear of norovirus outbreaks on planes, trains and automobiles. only cruise ships. the fact is that cruise ships are the perfect environment for viruses like the norovirus and now the coronavirus to spread. Thousands of people in close proximity to each other for sometimes weeks = disaster. People do get flu’s from airplanes but less likely as the times spent near sck people is often significantly less..

Look closer: it is in your backyard. The Dump with millions of dead animals mixed with hospital waste is the perfect place to propagate and mutate

I doubt people working at the Dump and visiting it use sanitizer upon exit. I doubt they sanitize equipment and vehicles.
So cruise ships are sterile compared to that.

Sadly, the contamination on the cruise ship are bound to be more accurate than the numbers reported by the Chinese government , whom during the SARS epidemic did all it could to fuzz the numbers of cases and lethality , I wish every passenger to recover quickly !

8:33 Although the dump is the source of many a health risk (the list is extensive) it is not going to give us the coronavirus.

What, are you living and working on it? Agreed the dump is a cesspit but we are talking about close quarters human to human transmission of a potential airborne super virus.
The dump will be the least of our worries if this virus is brought here.
