Activists join global demo with sunset climate strike

(CNS): Led by the Protect Our Future movement, young Caymanian activists will be joining in the global climate demonstration this Friday with a ‘sunset strike’ in George Town. As the Cayman Islands, like many low lying islands, face a very uncertain future as a result of global warming and rising sea levels, the younger generation has taken the lead on pushing the issue, but this time organisers are also hoping to attract people a little longer in the tooth.

This climate strike, which is in partnership with the National Trust for the Cayman Islands and several other green NGOs, will focusing on the direct threat to the George Town reefs and mounting concerns about unrestricted coastal development. Organisers said the strike was about adults standing together with the next generation and fighting for their future.

The event starts at 6pm today, Friday 20 September, at the parking lot across from Guy Harvey’s on South Church Street.

Fantastic. 5 million young people hit the streets today around the world. Sorry to say young people, but your parents and elders for the most part, have sold you out, especially in the Cayman Islands. Don’t give up and make the world environment a better place.

9:19, You are factually inaccurate. No countries have stopped 5G for health reasons. The concern about 5G is that the Chinese control the technology and many countries are concerned about threats to their national security systems. Having said that, Australia has banned 5G not for health reasons but because of the threat to their national security from China.

Up until now, we could protect ourselves and rejuvenate our health, to a certain extent, by living a healthy lifestyle and minimizing the crap we put into our bodies. But 5G is the turning point, and there’s little to nothing you can do to protect yourself from these frequencies without getting the heck away from them… if you can.

Over 180 scientists and doctors in almost 40 countries are warning the world about 5G health risks. These scientists’ response to “Resolution 1815 of the Council of Europe” spells it out quite succinctly:
“We, the undersigned scientists, recommend a moratorium on the roll-out of the fifth generation, 5G, until potential hazards for human health and the environment have been fully investigated by scientists independent from industry. 5G will substantially increase exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF)… and has been proven to be harmful for humans and the environment.”

If you’re not alarmed about 5G radiation dangers, you should be…

Just a few days ago I spoke with someone relatively “long in the tooth” and this person is convinced that Cayman will be under water in 20 years. I believe in protecting our environment and thinking carefully about how to protect Cayman’s natural resources for future generations but I have a hard time believing Cayman will not be on the map in 20 years. Some people’s opinion on global warming is too extreme for me to take seriously. Also, the hypocrisy of some of these environmentalists is shocking.

May be 50 years, not 20. But by that time humans could become extinct for other reasons.

Earth is a self-regulating complex system involving the biosphere, the atmosphere, the hydrospheres and the pedosphere, tightly coupled as an evolving system. This system as a whole, seeks a physical and chemical environment optimal for contemporary life. When everything is so messed up then system has no choice but to restore its optimal by eliminating humans.

May be there is a hope if new generation aggressively steps in. Gerontocracy must cease to exist worldwide for this to happen. Look at France for example. Its leader is 41. France has enacted many laws that protect French children from harmful effects of EMF for example. Name one country led by octogenarians that care about new generations or at least admit that harm is being inflicted upon its people?
It is very old politicians and elderly population in general who refuse to even consider THE CHANGE. Humans evolved about 200,000 years ago and it took less than 100 years to disturb planetary homeostasis. Just let it sink into your brain. Earth is in peril. Environment is in crises. Who can’t deny that? Only generations that are responsible.

No, it is not “unheard of”. It’s called the ICTZ, the “Z”, the freight train, and it’s actually quite common. Remember 2004 and 2005? Where the hurricane names went into the Greek Alphabet after they exhausted all the names?

In a few weeks storms will tend to form underneath us, rather than CV storms. The Pacific is often more active and active earlier. FAR from unusual. We are currently a little more than halfway in the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, which trends toward warmer and cooler (now warmer) sea surface temperatures, with the complete cycle being about 60-80 years.

Regardless of a person’s beliefs regarding climate change, it is a tad erroneous to compile recent data and attempt to use that correlation to demonstrate a long-term trend.

I rely upon data and not emotion. I am always willing to examine data and engage in a constructive debate with people who wield verifiable data. I am not a climate denier, however I recognise that much of the data has been skewed and statistical data points altered to mirror a desired outcome.

In particular, models can and have been set with a starting point of artificial data. Science doesn’t presume an outcome, but begins with a hypothesis, which is tested with verifiable and repeatable experiments in order to arrive at a conclusion.

Climate change should not ever be polticised, yet that is where we often find ourselves. Most people don’t study wx, but parrot talking points that reflect their acquired views. I am willing to change my view if presented with persuasive data. Are you? I would guess not. Have you done the research yourself, or just followed the mob?

Unlike yourself, I don’t consider insults to be a valid argument.

You are parroting views in line with Donald Trump and his view that global climate change is a Chinese Hoax. So he says we don’t need to talk about the subject, although NYC and Miami are dealing with the problem of rising seas on a monthly basis.

Ironic that this is being held across from a seafood restaurant. The big wake-up call for human-impact deniers will be on their seafood plates. Most of the fisheries as we know them, will be significantly depleted or entirely gone by 2048. Over half of global salmon production is already human-farmed. Global Sushi demand is depleting fish stocks at a voracious unsustainable pace. Back in 2013, 74% of fish sold in US was fraudulently labeled. Lead suspects were (and still are) Snapper (92% was found to be farmed Tilapia) and Tuna (74% found to be dyed diarrhea-causing Escolar). Almost all of the “wild caught” Atlantic salmon is actually aquaculture salmon, and the wild caught Pacific is often the more plentiful Pink Salmon, meat-dyed red to look like more expensive King/Chinook. Consumers still aren’t challenging the provenance of what is being offered for sale, or what their mall-grade fast food sushi really is/was.

CNS: Real change comes with a change in government policy but that only happens when there is a change in public opinion. What protests and demonstrations do is to help bring the issue to the attention of the public, hoping to change minds. A lot of social change began with protests, with ordinary people saying, this is wrong.

There is frequently a blending or even confusion of erosion vs. sea level rise. There is little doubt that everywhere humans build, they screw up the environment.

In the case of Miami and surrounding areas, the flooding is primarily do to coastal erosion, which also frequently causes a localised rise in sea level. This is often true in several areas where humans have ruined the natural flora which held the sands.
