Victim injured fighting off street robber
(CNS): A man was taken to hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning having sustained several injuries, including a fractured ankle and abrasions to his hands and knees, while fighting off and disarming a man who was trying to rob him. Police said they received a report at around 3:40am on 27 December of the attempted robbery, which happened on North Church Street near the junction of Mary Street in downtown George Town. The victim fought off his assailant, who had a machete, managing to take the weapon from him before the mugger fled from the scene empty handed.
The robber was described as a tall, older man, of light brown complexion with curly hair, and of slim build. He initially begged the victim for money but when he refused, the suspect demanded he hand over his wallet and brandished the machete. At that point, the struggle took place between the men.
The victim has since been released from hospital. The police searched the surrounding and connected areas for the suspect at the time but no one fitting the description was found. They are now seeking the assistance of the public in locating the suspect.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

too much drugs on island…period! it only gonna get worse…corruption has set in…
I don’t think there is enough. I can never find mushrooms.
There is a few dudes now who beg and act super sketchy. Had a guy approach my car as I left Queensgate building. He came from the sea area brushing his teeth by paradise, knocked on my window and I shook my head no. Happened again to me at the post office in Savannah where a guy came up to my window wanting something. Hell no, I sent him away without unlocking the door or rolling my window down. I miss the days when it was just kirky (happy he is better now though) and he was harmless.
Sadly, Kirky seems to have fallen off the wagon with both feet. I saw him last week staggering around with a 345 in each hand. Too bad.
Oh damn. That’s sad to hear.
Which part? Where the robbing scumbag wasn’t shot and killed?
“Brown or light brown complexion”, have I seen that description somewhere before?.
Aka Jamaican or CayJamian.
I suggest you read the book ‘He hath founded it upon the sea.’
I find that if you are at home and asleep at 3:40 am, the chances of being robbed and beaten are reduced dramatically.
I find a competent police service does the same and I can be out at that time if my job prevents me from getting home earlier. Jerk.
You do realise that 3 to 4AM is the end of the night-shift for service industry workers right? Do you have the basic understanding that not everyone works a 9 to 5?
Coming home after his shift. … Don’t assume.
WOW! Doesn’t he know about NAU. He does not have to bring any weapon there, just proof that he is Caymanian.
7:52am, it would be alright for the locals to receive help, but I think you should check out how many Cubans, Spaniards and jamsicans are at NAU doors. How many are living of NAU? That section needs a proper revamping, check out the people who they are paying rent for and family members collecting the money and renting the same property, or the person is renting their house and NAU paying rent if them. It is criminal to say the least.
Spaniards lololol
NAU is not requiring actual proof that anyone is Caymanian.
Should have slapped in the face a couple times before he ran off .
…for the yokel simpletons who still fail to understand…this is why machetes are restricted weapons after sundown in the penal code – decades of this stuff in the cause lists!!
Well done that person. Shame about the injuries, but hopefully that little cockroach took a bit of a licking too.
