Cops release photo of machete robber
(CNS): The police are asking the public to help them identify the machete robber who was caught on CCTV during the latest liquor store hold-up last night. Detectives believe the man caught on camera may have been responsible for an armed robbery at Blackbeard’s in Grand Harbour Thursday, another booze store heist on Tuesday night at the Tortuga liquor store along the West Bay Road, and possibly a hold-up at the Maedac Supercenter and gas station on Crewe Road last month.
The masked man suspected of being a serial robber struck around 8:45pm on Thursday armed with a machete and was caught on camera at the Grand Harbour booze shop. Detectives from George Town Police Station are appealing for anyone who might recognize the man in the image (see below).
Police said the CCTV had distorted the colours of the suspect’s jacket, which looks light green on the footage, but eyewitness accounts agree he was wearing black clothes. However, the police are still hoping that someone may recognize him.
The man who stole an undisclosed amount of cash was described as 5′ 9″ tall, wearing long black pants, black shirt, black ski mask and gloves and after taking the cash made his escape on foot towards the back of the store and the Grand Harbour area.
Detective Superintendent Mike Cranswick, the officer in charge of CID, advised the public to vigilant, and report any suspicious activity around liquor stores and commercial premises, especially, during the evening hours. “Report anything you see suspicious, regardless of the outcomes. The police would like to hear from you,” he said.
Anyone with information or who may have been in the area between 8:40pm and 8:50pm and saw anything unusual can contact the George Town Police Station at 949-4222 or anonymously by contacting Cayman Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).

I saw on the news a story involving a mother in Balitimore that recognised her son who was similary masked out rioting. She left her house and went in search of her son found him and gave him a few good slaps on the head while pulling down the mask and took him away. Now if there were more parents like that. The question that others have posted here shows by this incident that family members can identify this masked crook. But will they do the right thing? Pity someone did not hit him over the head with a bottle of rum.
Where was ‘Na today Bobo?” Fishining?
Pretty sure I’ve seen this guy skiing in Colorado.
If that was my son, brother, boyfriend etc. I would be able to identify him quite easily in that picture. Question is….will someone do the right thing and identify him or will they let this criminal and the criminal activity that goes on continue?
Dear 7:10pm; It will continue.
Takes me back to the time when the compass printed photo-fit images of robbers with bags over their heads, asking the public to be on the lookout for them. How can anyone tell who that is from that poor CCTV image, and through that clothing.
Family and friends can identify if so chooses to do.
