Thieves take BMW marked ‘For Sale’
(CNS): Car thieves helped themselves to a blue BMW yesterday afternoon that was parked near a George Town roundabout and advertised ‘For Sale’. The car was reported stolen just after 1:30pm Tuesday (20 June) from the Red Bay roundabout. The missing car is a 2007 Blue BMW 320 series, registration #134-163, police said. Anyone who sees or has any information about the whereabouts of this vehicle is asked to call 911 or the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.
They can also contact the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 800-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
Anonymous 7:38am good question, and I know here in the US THERE’S a guy who has tow truck and all he do is pick up cars and take them home and strip them, maybe his brother is in Cayman with a tow truck too.
It would really be helpful if the RCIPS would issue a public service announcement to inform the public of exactly how these cars are being stolen. Are there master keys being circulated? Are they tech savvy and just “hotwiring” cars? What exactly is going on here? Or has it not had an impact on the “right class” of people to warrant such courtesy from the RCIPS?
CNS – are you able to shed some light on this?
No matter where it’s parked, if people drive across & see someone getting into cars like that, there’s no way to tell if they are thieves or owners. I wouldn’t give it a second thought.
it happened early morning…round 4 O clock
Maybe they’re just test driving before buying.
I used to be proud that we could still leave cars for sale parked along the roadside. No more I guess.
That’s nothing to be proud of. It looks terrible when parts of the island are used car lots.
Seems car theft on the rise I wonder if there is a new set of criminals on the lose this kind of car is not so easy to hot wire unless you have the right tools not so cheap or you got the key! And some of what has been stole over the last month have been newer cars needs chipped key to start or it shot down. Chiped keys are standard on most American cars from as far back as 1999 if not longer. And hot wiring one is not as easy they make it look in movies.
I have been wondering the same, a lot of the cars that are being stolen will probably have a factory alarm and other security features that would take some knowledge to bypass.
just underneath a CCTV camera…. LOL
I Was wondering if it got sold since I didn’t see it anymore! LOL
On the real though when I saw it I thought ”Back where im from, that car would have been stolen the second it was parked there”
The theft is obviously disgusting, but why would anybody leave a car abandoned, well away from where you can keep an eye on it???
BMW like that is probably being broken into little pieces by now. Utter scum.
She must have been for free…not for sale…that’s bold. man. wow.
they stole a car, parked at one of the busiest roads at one of the busiest times of the day and NO ONE saw …
Tomb raider style babe
Just out of curiosity, were the keys in the vehicle?
We need to know the answer to that question, keys used or was car hot wired ? what are we up against here. Does someone have a master key for imports.
Isn’t it also against the unenforceable law we have to sell cars on the side of the road ?
Exactly, never good info from RCIPS. It’s like trying to play soduku with no clues
One would think a locked late-model BMW would have a car alarm too.
