Burglars smash their way into jewellery store

| 08/07/2022 | 28 Comments

(CNS): Burglars made off with a large amount of jewellery after they smashed their way into a store on Goring Avenue around twenty minutes past midnight on Friday. The 911 centre received a report of an alarm going off and dispatched the police, who found that burglars had broken into the store by smashing the doors at the front entrance and then breaking several glass cases to get to the jewels. The RCIPS said the specific items that were taken are still being determined. Although police did not name the business, the only jewellery store directly on Goring Avenue is Diamond Marquis.

The matter is currently under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information is asked to contact George Town CID at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777, or the website.

Did the diamonds heist that took place in Camana Bay circa 2016 ever solved? I heard the news once about two thieves hitting the jewelry and never heard back if they were arrested.

These idiots can’t do much with the stolen property. It’s a small island. Go ahead and post it for sale online… idiots! We’ll be reading about the arrests soon. Hahahaha

You really think they try to sell these goods on the island, with boats in and out daily? This includes the pollution-spewing cruise ships, whose underpaid and mistreated crew members are notorious for handling stolen goods from their Caribbean destinations.

Within 48 hours, most easily-identifiable stolen goods have left the islands.

…and we do the same for them with cash for gold and pawn shops right downtown in GT buying whatever is placed on the counter. Are we so naive to think there are provenance criteria or serial number checks on these portable goods? See CFATF report…

    So silly and simple.
Cayman Islands has a surplus annual budget to afford to qualify cameras all over the island like Singapore to identify the culprits and track them. Cayman is tiny a place no excuses why this can’t be done.

You are right. However, we bought and installed the cameras a decade ago. Right Eric?

What will the cameras do, show a guy wearing a mask with typical skin tone? That’s helpful

So you’re saying in 2022 that we shouldn’t use modern technology and instead use Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass and clues to crack the case? How many 9/11 attacks were stopped because of modern intelligence?
