(CNS): A West Bay man is currently in critical care, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds in a gang-related attempt on his life in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police believe the man, who has not yet been identified, was gunned down by gang rivals outside a home on Gorse Lane in Birch Tree Hill, West Bay, at around 1:00am on 5 November. The attempted murder comes during a weekend of gun-related violence.

Armed officers who attended the call cleared the scene and administered first aid to the man before he was taken by emergency medical personnel to the hospital, where he has been treated and remains in a serious but stable condition. A number of spent shell casings were found, and officers are still investigating the scene of the attempted murder.

The RCIPS said that its senior command team met Sunday morning to develop a coordinated response plan in relation to what they believe was a targeted gang-related attack.

“As always, our main priority remains ensuring public safety,” said Police Commissioner Kurt Walton. “We are taking the immediate step of increasing our proactive patrols, particularly in targeted areas. Members of the public can expect to see an increased presence of armed officers and may experience some inconvenience due to vehicle control points and stop checks.

“We urge the public to cooperate with our officers as best they can to assist us in bringing the culprits to justice and proactively preventing any potential retaliation,” he added.

“Although this attack was targeted, we understand that members of the public may be concerned by this and other firearm-related incidents which have taken place over the weekend,” Commissioner Walton said, in reference to the three attempted robberies and one very violent robbery on a couple outside a West Bay home.

“We urge everyone to continue to exercise personal safety, but by the same token, we remind everyone not to attempt to take matters into their own hands but allow the police to do our job,” he said. “The best way to do this is to provide information which can assist with our investigations, no matter how minor it may seem. Don’t help the culprits evade justice by keeping information to yourself.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Unit at 949-4222. Anonymous tips can be provided to the RCIPS Confidential Tip Line at 949-7777 or the website.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to caymancrimestoppers.com. Crime Stoppers offers up to a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to a charge or conviction for a firearm-related offence.

Fight fire with fire…..isn’t that in the Bible somewhere or an equivalent…who knows who cares
If they know no one is shooting back and can aim and with authority to eliminate the threat then they will think twice

As long as we are a “colony” some Caymanians will blame England. They have to have someone else to blame…like Jamaicans for crime and Filipinos for taking the jobs.

Nope. Jamaica and Trinidad are primarily to blame. Then the British.

        Caymanians have just been used.

just going to throw out the obvious but traffic patrols and actually pulling people over for any traffic violation will lead you to arrests and help control the criminals on our roads.

give the police information and this is what they present to the public, “suspect in black clothes and hoodie, aprox 5,10” tall of light complexion, if you know this person please call BLAH BLAH BLAH! This is the lazy policing practices of countries where the police originate, first the crime then waste the time. No emphasis on prevention and dismantling the current networks of criminals.

There is no excuse that on such a small island you are not able to track, arrest, and lock up these animals.

being in a gang here is absolutely nonsense. We should round up every gang member, as we know who they are, and ship them off to New York so they can see what gangs are. Half wouldn’t even survive. just round them up, we have no use for these pieces of trash.

And we now even have a security company from Grand Cayman over on the Brac – offering a mobile security patrol checks – yes on sleepy, boring Brac.

Check points, stop and frisk, HD security cameras throughout the streets. No excuses as Cayman is making millions in surplus profits beyond their budget. Will it occur… NO because politicians will choose to allocate in money making developments likely real estate than investing in development of safe communities and proper upbringings such as a two parent households.

      It used to.

The problem is partly the lack of support from the prosecution/sentencing side of the equation.

No longer are foreign criminals routinely deported.

Bail is too freely given to repeat offenders.

Sentences are not severe enough to serve as a deterrent.

Our standards are too low. Our justice system to expensive, slow, and unwieldy.

The integrity and quality of our policing is far below expectations, and has been for some time. We are continuing in a descent into lawlessness.

Much of the issues could be readily fixed with technology. That we have failed and even refused to implement obvious solutions is worrying in the extreme.

Will WEST BAYERS now come out to the Police Community Meeting on Tues 7th Nov?
This is the First such Police community meeting in YEARS.
I hope the MPs don’t come and dominate the discussions, since they are not holding their own All District Meetings either!!
    Cant get peppa spray.
Police have almost zero visibility on streets, and the response time and slackness at the station warrants it being closed down. Not waste cash to build a new station here brudda
