A lifeguard only makes sense if the lifeguard also has a defibrillator that they can use on these tourists dying of heart attacks…
Otherwise, waste of money…
Why waste money on lifeguards, when 99% of the water related deaths are from vast morbidly obese tourists who haven’t exercised in 20+ years? Who pays for the air ambulance, emergency services, hospital care etc if they’re not insured either?
Are all those living in Grand Cayman skinny and models? Why then do “ you” constantly judge the weight of your tourists?
Secondly, the island is supposedly full of friendly and caring people, but comments made on this forum re. tourists do not show too much kindness. This has been as far back as during covid ( and maybe before). If “ you” do not want tourists, please let us know as there are many places where there’s a beach & warm weather where we can spend our money (& Cayman is not as safe anymore or quiet, so that really doesn’t factor in)
Who the hell thumbs-down Lifeguards?? If it was your family member or gramdma, would you feel the same? My God you all are wicked.
11 Americans drown every day, mostly in pools. Why must we pay out our a$$ for lifeguards to cover every square inch our coastline if they decide to come here and take the risk of snorkeling in the ocean?
There are guided tours they can take if they need a paid “life-guard” instead of going adventuring on their own accord. Americans sure as hell are not paying for an armed guard to escort me through bear territory, are they?
North Carolina is also on the Atlantic Ocean.
Not one single water related death in Cayman in the last five years would have been prevented by the presence of lifeguards. Prove me wrong.
Without the counter of lifeguards actually being present to have measureable statistics, it’s impossible. Dufus.
Dat you, Covid copy & paste bro?
Condolences to the family.
…how many deaths year after year, and yet still no lifeguards?
And who is going to pay for us to have lifeguards every 100 yards along the whole coastline? Want to pay taxes to cover it? No? I didn’t think so.
Miami Beach has just 5 iconic lifeguard huts. Their lifeguards earn usd$30k per year. CITA should consider it. Spread the admin cost over all SMB condos and hotels. Peanuts in prevention.
And are there any deaths at Miami Beach?
If the SMB condos or hotels want a lifeguard they can very well pay a lifeguard. Why does Joe Public have to pay for the lifeguards?
What is more useful? More jobs in the CIG building or more jobs for trained lifeguards.
They going to spend $42 Million on a Private Terminal for rich people, and charge you $20 everytime you fly in and out of Cayman.
Don’t be ignorant.
