Fire service battles blaze at old sewage plant in GT
(CNS): The Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS) managed to put out a fire that ignited on Tuesday afternoon along Compass Drive in George Town. When they arrived, firefighters found that an old sewage treatment plant was engulfed in flames and a brush area close to the plant was also ablaze.
The crews responded swiftly and were able to extinguish the fire using monitors and high-pressure hose reels from one of the tankers, and prevented major damage to property. Fire officials confirmed that the blaze started as a result of welding work at the site but no injuries were reported.
The public is reminded that if anyone discovers a structure fire they should take the necessary precautions, get out of the area and call 911 for the Cayman Islands Fire Service.
Meanwhile, officials have also confirmed that there was yet another small fire at the dump this week that was extinguished.

Fires have very little chance of propagating under the new chief watch.

A really shitty situation
Cayman is doomed.
3 Compass articles published today leave no doubt about Cayman future. The very first 3 CNS articles including this one leave no doubt either.
Cayman can, with expat’s help, identify major problems, but it can’t fix it for the lack of vision, competent leadership and expertise.
Some problems, such as traffic and “unemployment” have been beaten to death; still they demonstrate either inability to UNDERSTAND the FUNDAMENTALS of the issues or it is done intentionally.
You simply can’t squeeze an elephant thru a bottle neck, but they keep pushing, decade after decade. That is about roads and traffic. You can’t fill 20,000 positions requiring specific vocational training (at least) with 1,500 unemployed individuals. Yet,Business Staffing Plan Board chairman Richard Barton is pushing for an “urgent need” for legislative reform when it is obvious he doesn’t understand the problem at all!
Frankly, the level of ineptitude on all levels is mind boggling. Why is it? Do they add “dumbing” substances in Cayman water?
Dump’s fires, sewage pants fires, incinerators without filters, medical waste improper disposal, soon to come massive amounts(volumes) of radioactive waste in the absence of basic, elemental Radiation laws and regulations…
I’ll repeat, sadly, CAYMAN IS DOOMED.
Wonder if Messrs. Methane or H. Sulphide were involved?
World class performance by our fire service.
Our environment is getting worse, not better.
A burning ring of fire
A good thing no one fell in!
