Queen Elizabeth II

(CNS): Residents in the Cayman Islands will get an additional holiday next year to mark the Queen’s 70th year on the throne. With numerous celebrations planned for the British monarch’s Platinum Jubilee, Cabinet has agreed to add Friday, 3 June 2022, as a public holiday over the Queen’s official birthday weekend, as well as Monday, 6 June, which will give people four days off school and work to join in the events.

Roper delivered the news on Friday morning during his short Throne Speech to Parliament ahead of the budget address. He revealed that a committee has already been established to plan the celebrations.

Roper said there will be a concert, fireworks, district events, a beacon lighting, a car and airshow, as well the regular birthday party at Government House. There will also be a parade starting at that location and a ‘Plant a tree for the jubilee’ initiative for children.

“I am sure we can all agree that Her Majesty is a truly extraordinary monarch, admired throughout the world for her selfless service, and I know there is great affection for Her Majesty here in Cayman,” he said. “I am delighted to announce that Cabinet has agreed that we will have a long holiday weekend next June… to hold a wide range of activities to celebrate this momentous milestone.”

You can bet the chair she’s sitting on in the pic, is made of gold. A lot of poor people could use that gold to get food.

27 @ 10:50 am – Hmmm…I would bet the chair is not gold, only gold-coloured expensive wood. But yes…extravagant. What’s new with monarchs?

as with nearly everything that people think the Queen owns, she doesn’t

The Crown owns everything, not the actual Queen.

This means effectively it is owned by the British people.

The Cayman Islands now #1 in the Caribbean and the developed world for public holidays.

      Congratulations all.

Great living in such a wealthy society but hell for small businesses.

It is called the cost of doing business in a world-class jurisdiction. Nobody is forcing you to do business here nor obligated to care if your gluttony tooth is satisfied or not. Get over yourself.

In other RELEVANT news, Congratulations to Her Majesty. Even the Queen has been through a lot this year.

9:18, Bet my life you have never owned a small business with everything on the line personally and financially.

By the way, where else am I suppose to do business if not here? You telling me to immigrate?

Great your feelings go out to the Queen. She has really suffered financially this year. 😂 😆 😝

Yes, and kiss the British Common Law system and financial services sector good bye.

But guess there is no problem being a Republic with a major cut in our standard of living.

Could we change it to Friday the 10th of June? … Full week off work for three vacation days in the middle. 🙂

Born in wealth and the richest monarch in the world.
While many suffer from poverty .
How can you celebrate that ?
I have a lot more respect for a single mom, raising 3 kids to good humans.
    THAT should be celebrated.

Agree that a single parent raising a child(ren) should garner more respect, however this is tradition tied to the Mother Country. It’s not such a bad thing. Think where the Cayman Islands would have been without the UK’s oversight.

We have no manner in which to protect ourselves, both from various usurpers, but also from financial and supply-line causes. I think the Cayman Islands are too immature of a territory to prosper independently. JMHO. We will grow under the UK umbrella and hopefully prosper in a sustainable manner.

        Caymanian respect?

If you can’t respect your incredible queen, maybe you should leave and live in a republic

Not the richest monarch in the world, or anywhere near it. And unlike the Saudis or the Sultan of Brunei do you see any flaunting of wealth or lavish expenditure? What I see is a life of non stop public engagements and responsibilities – probably the hardest working monarch in the world.

We can not all agree that Roper. Speak for yourself.

You can go to work those days in protest, in that case.

What are you going to do….leave??

Haha, yeah right. The market value of crocodile tears is no longer pegged to the KYD. Get over yourself and adjust accordingly.

makes zero sense and will cost businesses millions here…
