Three arriving travellers positive for COVID-19

(CNS): Three inbound travellers have tested positive for COVID-19, Medical Officer of Health Dr Samuel Williams-Rodriguez confirmed Wednesday. The three positive samples were among a batch of 217 coronavirus tests carried out over the last day, the rest of which were negative. There have been eight positive cases of the virus in tests carried out among people in isolation since the weekend, as spikes in the UK and the US have a knock-on effect on those travelling to Cayman from or through those countries.

All three of the people who were reported as positive Wednesday are said to be asymptomatic and are among 17 active cases of those currently in quarantine and home isolation. Just one patient is said to still have mild symptoms of the virus.

The spike in cases follows one couple being fined on Monday for multiple breaches of the home isolation rules, and admissions by officials that there have been at least three other potential breaches by people currently in isolation.

This appears to be as a result of weaknesses in the iMsafe wristbands being used by those in home-quarantine, allowing people to tamper with the device and breach quarantine boundaries without detection.

CDC recently updated estimated infection fatality rates for COVID. Here are the updated survival rates by age group:

    0-19: 99.997%
    20-49: 99.98%
    50-69: 99.5%
    70+: 94.6%

That’s great! But not dying doesn’t mean a lack of long term health and/or financial effects. Get yourself a moderate case and land in the hospital for a couple weeks. I’m sure that bill will feel real even if you think the virus is a hoax.

Meanwhile in Bermuda, which has a lax protocol that some people says we should copy, a 4th school has now been shut because of community spread.

And in addition community spread has now infected at least 7 Bermuda hospital workers

Cayman’s approach is much better, assuming we actually enforce quarantine.

When is the MOH (AKA Head of the Secret Service) going to let us know how many of these arriving positives have been allowed out into the wide world to self isolate under the benevolent and laid back regime of Dr.Ebanks-Garcia?.

Really! Get over yourself they isolate at home just like anyone else.

3.49pm A lot of them will be safe in quarantine in their hotel rooms under guard where there is no chance of wondering amongst the public.

        Not the banned Canadian couple!

Frankly, they make Canada look bad and everybody from there or abroad is not like them.

However, all other rule breakers like them, wherever they come from, are not welcome here.

Money is not a free pass for irresponsible behavior or justified superiority complexes. Anybody that facilitates or does not condemn blatant quarantine breaking nonsense is basically an accomplice, whether they know it or not.

We had people Q in our complex. Wondered around outside of their parameters. Blatant disregard for the rules and the health of other people.
We all did our time and accomplished this “COVID Bubble” status. IT IS ALL WE HAVE!
It is high time to accept that 1. The technology is garbage and 2. Not all people will comply.
Quarantine outside of a monitored facility needs to stop, lest we all have to go back into lockdown

Can someone please tell us what cycles the PCR’s are being ran at in Cayman? Is anyone paying attention to the lawsuits taking place all over the world regarding the PCR tests? Anyone else seen that the inventor of the PCR test (died last year) stated categorically to never use a PCR as a diagnostic tool? And yet, the whole world is doing so? For those not interested in researching anything, it basically means no doctor that you ever go to would rely on the results of a PCR test to test you for illness. Until all of a sudden, now they do and we are in lockdowns globally because of them.
And to those thinking of here comes a tinfoil hat wearer, just wait until 1st quarter next year when the true all cause mortality rates come out and you’ll have to ask yourselves, wtf is going on that we’ve murdered the global economies for a virus with an infection death rate of 1.4% and one that has barely moved the all cause mortality line anywhere

You are right. There is a giant conspiracy by all of the best public health experts and scientists on the (proven to be flat) planet and you are the only person to see this. You really should keep that secret to yourself and not tell anyone else – please.

In case anyone is confused,my comment is deliberately sarcastic and aimed at the scientifically inept and logically challenged poster of the above, who clearly has no understanding of many things other than where to find drivel coming from Brietbart.

You actually havent heard much from all the best health experts and scientists as theyve been muzzled by mainstream media. The only way they can talk is on social media and then you automatically call them conspiracy theorists. Ive never read or watched anything on Breitbart but I have read and seen hundreds of testimonials, interviews and articles supporting the previous posters comments from (claimed) scientists and doctors around the world. Do you read any international news? Like Portugal court lifting quarantine because of PCR tests’ validity?

I guess we will all see in the end. But remember the tin foil hat wearers were ridiculed for years about UFOs and look at how that turned out.

You lost all credibility when you trashed “mainstream media” while extolling the virtue of “social media”.

Oh dear. Just go and look at all mortality deaths across Europe over past 5-10 years. They’re not changing, up and to including mid November 2020. What is changing is heart attacks/other deaths…many are DOWN…but Covid is huge, amazingly a heart attack victim is not categorized as heart attack death if they test postive for Covid any time in previous 28 days.
Just because it doesn’t fit the narrative doesn’t mean its wrong.
If you’re not convinced that it is at least worht checking out, go and research the Great pandemic that wasn’t of 2010…its in Forbes or Fortune mag….and just read it

When is government going to formalise the policy that says that if you pay an extra $1000 you can skip quarantine all together?

  6. Anonymous says:

It is to be expected that we will have more and more positives and therefore more and more risk given that Covid rates are rising in the places theses flights are coming from and we do not yet do day of departure pre-flight testing.

    Some governments are slow learners.

There often isn’t convenient, or in-scope availability of testing capacity at originating travel location. We are spoiled to assume that’s the case. Lab results sometimes take more than 3 days, since there are actual priority community epidemics underway elsewhere. Again, we are spoiled by having lab capacity. A result snapshot from 3 days previous, doesn’t necessarily tell us anything useful on arrival day, after 2 subsequent days of community exposures. As Bahamas found, the results can also be forged. With the exception of a few isolated jerks, our system works.
