Almost 900 people now in COVID isolation

(CNS): The number of people isolating as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19 reached a new high Wednesday, when public health officials confirmed that 898 travellers are currently in either a government quarantine facility or isolating at home. Meanwhile, 184 coronavirus tests carried out over the last day were negative, according to Chief Medical Officer Dr John Lee, who also reported that there are currently 16 active cases of the virus.

With the exception of the one patient who remains in hospital in critical care, these patients are asymptomatic.

Cayman health officials have now carried out 48,761 tests for the virus and recorded a tally 253 positive cases over the last eight months since testing began.

This is the website and registration information for the company at Heathrow that is offering pre-departure Covid testing. When is Cayman going to require these tests in order to decrease the risk to everyone?

    From CNN

French Prime Minister Jean Castex says one in four deaths currently happening in the country are caused by Covid-19.

“Today in France 1 in 4 deaths is due to the virus” Castex said on Thursday. “France is facing an extremely strong second epidemic wave,” he added. Over the past week between 400 and 500 people have died every day, he said.

“It would be irresponsible to lift or lighten lockdown now,” Castex continued.

The UK is just as bad and we have plane loads coming in every week.

So the idea is that if no one ever checks isolation compliance then the default assumption is 100% compliance.

I would like to see a statistic that says how many times someone performed a compliance visit for each of the people now supposedly in isolation.

They drive by, don’t generally get out of their cars. Can work for the RCIPS once this is all over.

Perhaps the title should be “More than 900 people are supposed to be in Covid isolation”. There is no way of knowing how many actually are complying in all regards.

The reality is it only needs those that are positive to comply with the rules, with perhaps as few as 20 people out of those 900 being positive, it also depends on when those that are positive know they are positive. I would expect a 100% compliance to the rules once they know they have Covid, so possibly 10 people being positive and not knowing and having the potential to be an issue. If you are this worried now, I really worry for people like yourself over what happens next, we aren’t going to be able to just wait this out forever, nor wait for everyone to get vaccinated, and it’s not going to just disappear, so what next?

Yes – we only need people who will definitely get in car accidents to comply with the rules of the road. Good logic.

You’re right, I’ve been saying the same thing but people don’t understand. The question isn’t whats the probability everyone self isolates correctly? It’s, whats the probability someone breaks quarantine and has the virus despite an initial negative and is contagious and actually gives it to someone else. The odds are pretty tiny. That said, spot checks would be welcome and easy to do.

There are Caymanians stuck in UK who want to return home.

How so? Just book a flight then go on the cig portal and get permission to isolate at home. I did a couple of weeks ago and took them 2 days to approve. Process couldn’t have been easier. I know there were issues at first but to CIG’s credit they seem to have got their act together!

8.02am The new lot still have a way to go.During my hotel quarantine they sent me 3 e mails regarding my self isolation, each time I replied I was at the Holiday Inn. I was even told to report for my Covid exit test at South Sound Community Hall.

You can’t be stuck anywhere you’ve voluntarily relocated to. Let this be a lesson for the others with the same plan in mind.

Students, elderly, ill patients, caregivers? …. C’mon man, this caveman logic need to go! Native people would not go abroad if they could actually get the same quality here.

Go to cayman airways website, book a flight.

      Give it a rest!

11:26 pm. We hope none. But we think many. How many people in Government quarantine that are paying for themselves to be there? And how many Government are paying for them ? . These wuestions the Cayman people need to know, and need to know now.

      Yet still no spread.

I went through 15 days at home and had no check up visits from HSA, I know two other families who have also been through the 15 days at home and not been visited. There needs to be at least some random spot checks just so those in isolation know that they may get caught if they break the rules. Currently it seems nothing is done.

Thank you CIG. You make me proud every day.

Proud Civil Servant – I can understand your feelings, job for life, with full salary during pandemics, never paying a penny for gold plated medical coverage, no accountability, anybody in your position would be proud of CIG.

    • Anonymous says:

Why is CIG paying the taxi fare for traveling from the airport to home quarantine location? Surely arriving Caymanians ought to be able to afford the invoice taxi fare.

Who is watching them? Can we really expect our inept government to ensure they are not out in public..I see community spread coming on soon..

Alden and his goons and their gluttonous appetite for money will get us in some serious trouble.

  9. Anonymous says:

    Who’s paying for all this?

  10. Anonymous says:

WOW…and more arriving on BA flight tomorrow. I didnt realize we had this many flights coming in…private or commercial. HSA must be busting at the seams to handle these numbers.
