(CNS): According to the USGS site, there was a 4.5 magnitude earthquake at around 8am Tuesday some 63 miles southeast of East End, Grand Cayman and about 6 miles deep. Hazard management tweeted some time later that no damage had been reported and there was no cause for concern.

most people in Cayman do not realize we live effectively on a major fault line. We can all acknowledge the coming ‘big one’ for California, but we’re closer to a fault line than most in California…and our fault line is well capable of throwing out a mega quake. There is a theory that the 7+ from January (which BTW was only a high 5, low 6 as regards forces felt in Cayman due to distance) was a FORESHOCK, not the BIG ONE.
But selling condo’s on a mega faultline zero feet above sea level? Not easy.

Most likely aftershocks from the large earthquake at the beginning of the year… they can go on for a long time. Everyone should still keep prepared though… after all this is 2020!
