More evacuation flights in the works
(CNS): While Cayman’s borders remain closed until the soft reopening in September, several more repatriation flights are being organised over the next few weeks and returning passengers will still need to quarantine for 14 days. Governor Martyn Roper said some progress had been made on a repatriation flight to Nicaragua but no date had been fixed. Meanwhile, Cayman Airways will be running eight flights to the US and Jamaica over the coming weeks.
Speaking at the COVID briefing on Friday, the governor said that while Cayman moves towards the phased reopening of the borders in around six weeks, emergency travel options to a range of destinations will continue.
“We are making progress with a flight to Nicaragua and hope to get agreement to operate an aircraft to Managua soon,” he said. “There will be another flight to Manila via London on 28 July and a further London flight on 31 August, the first of our flights to enable students and families to get to the UK. There will be another student flight later in August.”
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Moses Kirkconnell announced that Cayman Airways will conduct eight repatriation flights between July and September. These include five to Miami and three to Jamaica.
There are also plans for another flight to Canada, officials have said, but so far no date has been set.
Anyone wishing to travel on the repatriation flights, including those wishing to return to Cayman and those who need to get to destinations not yet addressed, are asked to visit the TravelTime webpage here and complete the application form.

I have a question.
How many people have left the island?
it seems the island is full either way, just check out the amount of congested traffic we have been seeing lately, and that is that children are not in school (maybe summer camps) and some people are working from home.
Yeh, yeh I see the happy face at this. You won’t be smiling too much when this affects you.
Less People, Less people renting, less people buying groceries, less people paying CUC and Water Authority, less people paying work permits, less people going to restaurants, less people buying at cost u less and other stores, less people buying gas, less people need permits and licenses, less people buying liquor, less people listening to the radio and advertisements, less people reading or needing local magazines, less people needing electricians, plumbers, carpenters or other services…
And as such, less jobs and people required to service ALL of those areas and the demand. And the job or service that is no longer really needed may very well become yours.
Purchasing power in Cayman just got worse!! It’s already the most expensive place to live and with all these people leaving, it’s going to get worse.
The Mail could come here via sea. Little slower but plenty time on our hands.
It could come on the backs of turtles and still be faster than letting it pile up far away.
Just got my email from the Time Travellers.
UK to Grand Cayman July.
Flight $750 and quarantine options $4,000 or $10,000 min 16 days plus more I have to stay longer due to test delays. Absolute JOKE and clearly aimed at one group of people.
Flight is cheap.
Not one way cheaper to book a return with BA
Agreed – a complete headache
a S*** show.
There’s no shortage of self-absorbed princesses that still think they have the entitlement to travel recreationally during a global pandemic – demanding the officials make special allowances and discounts for them – raising and lowering the drawbridges every time they want to leave the castle to go skip and pick flowers in the woods. Many of them return only to add to our burden by becoming the infected headaches requiring the supervision and medical support. For the love of God, if you’re going to gallop out into COVID-country, pick a suitable lodging, ride it out, and stay there until it’s over. Thanks.
What makes you think all the people wanting to go off stand are female? And why the sexist term “princesses”?
What about flights to Canada they need to go home too No Wuk for them here either!
Sssshhhh. Jon Jon is using your money to pay their health insurance costs, so what is it to you?
Connect through Miami…
Quote there’s a flight to the UK on 31 Aug & there will be another one later in Aug. What date in August comes later than the 31st?
😂
Get our mail from the US maybe? Freaking useless
Ask the US to get it to Cayman. That is how it works.
You won’t let the planes land, therefore no mail.
I’m sure y’all could figure out something.
Why only 3 flights to Jamaica when they’re the majority on island and majority using the Foodbank?
You didn’t know? God promised the Israelites Palestine, and unto the Jamaicans he hath bestowed Cayman.
Cayman Islands were a dependency of Jamaica. But now you think you’re better than them?
We are. MUCH! And we did it without natural resources and infrastructure – as Jamaica has destroyed itself. Jamaica is a tragedy. Not something to celebrate.
Is that because Cayman has London to run to for a bailout and Jamaica does not? Not really a fair comparison, eh? Stop thinking you’re “MUCH” better when you can cry to London for help.
No..it was done with big brother UK looking out and keeping the wolves away from the door. After BREXIT?….BLACK LIST!!!
How do you know that they are the majority using the food bank? Do you have some figures from a reputable authority which you can provide to back your claim?
Exactly. There are very hard working Jamaicans in the Cayman Islands. 8:02 is simply a jackass that thinks he is superior to Jamaicans with that sad comment. Sounds like Trump attacking Mexicans.
Not cheap, $950 for economy one way, same cost for 2yr olds, seats only assigned at check in (arrive 5 hours early if you want an aisle seat), no alcohol on board, only basic snackboxes (all classes),no entertainment system. No food or drinks inside the airport, you have to take a an empty water bottle and fill it inside at the water fountain and have your sandwiches searched and sampled.
Even communist China can’t be as bad as this.
It’s a 45 minute flight, relax nuhh. Be glad you have a second option
I wish it was 45 min to U.K. LOL
I agree when travelling with a family essentially no food for u or kids for almost 24 hours :/
PANDEMIC. GLOBAL CRISIS. Look those words up.
Overhyped. Google it.
It’s not 24 hours! Get a grip
Take food with you…
Well maybe communist china should have been “as bad as that”
So many people are celebrating the repatriation flights. It is obvious that they have absolutely no clue about how an economy works. It is also sad to see how quick people are ready to attack certain nationalities who are often found doing menial jobs that they themselves refuse to do. I Just pray that we start appreciating people for what they do and stop tearing down others. Do some research and act educated.
Stop looking silly attacking people and celebrating because trust me, things will continue to increase just because……
an absolute tragedy for cayman….and a very poor sign for the local economy
