Petition verification process nears completion
(CNS): The Elections Office has now verified 5,204 signatures on the Cruise Port Referendum petition and only needs to check 91 more to trigger a national poll on the government’s cruise port plans. According to the Cayman Islands Constitution, section 70, there must be a referendum on matters of national importance if at least 25% of registered voters sign a petition calling for one.
As part of the final push to reach the required 5,292 signatures, Elections Office staff will be available at their HQ on Smith Road and also at Foster’s Supermarket at The Strand and at Countryside.
Anyone who signed the petition but has not yet verified their signatures is urged to do so as soon as possible.

So the whole country is on –
STAND BY !
Please Cayman, for the sake of democracy, do not launch a VERIFICATION PROCESS again! LET’S GET EVERYONE A NATIONAL ID CARD, SO WE DON’T HAVE TO REPEAT THIS AGAIN!
I had an Electors Card, a Cayman passport, and a driver’s license. That did not prevent the verification process being necessary in the minds of those in charge.
Should we honor change.org petitions then to initiate a referendum?
Does it make sense (COI) for the elections office to solicit signatures for a petition against government?
The initial petition needs to be done privately then verified. You’re mistaken if you think the point of the process is simply to find frauds when that’s just the byproduct of the process.
So, having potentially spent millions in a hell bent effort to discover fraudulent signatures, how many have been discovered?
None, nada, zero, zilch …,
Waste of public funds.
Which millions bobo
Cayman Islands dollars millions. What do you think the whole elections office costs to operate? Offices, IT systems, personnel, press and marketing, utilities, paper, fuel allowances, overtime, transport, lost productivity in other departments…
They were doin nothing anyway, another dept in gov milking gov….give them something to do yes
Plenty of jobs available for them in the private sector.
Why was I told that the Election Office would do a poor job? So much fake news. Can we hurry and build the Port.
No china harbour, no putting the islands in debt and no $400m payment Everything I was told was untrue.
Minimum $16m per year for 25 years which does equal $400m. I have seen posts like this before saying the same exact thing and I counter every one of them with the truth and you are still spreading these lies and propaganda. China Harbour was a real fear and obviously not picking them was ordered by UK or chosen by CI to allow bots like you to say ‘no China Harbour’. If you don’t call paying $16m+ a year for 25 years to a consortium being in debt to that consortium then what is a debt. Completely brainwashed kirkbot here
They have done an unnecessary and inappropriate job, well. That is not cause for celebration. A sampling would have been just as effective and saved the Caymanian people significant money (and time).
Do you get paid per post to type such comments? Too much kool aid can lead to an overdose of stupidity.
OMG. Kirkbot alert. 😱. All hands on deck to post 👎 to every pro referendum comment. Quick now everyone to their stations. This is not a drill. 🚨🚨
Bobo, I gine enjoy this holiday ya lol.
179👎 Priceless. 😂😂😂
showed them wa time it is! lmaooo
lodge losing its grip!🗿lol
that’s great. separate the church and state. our constitution provides for it in sec 10
Bots don’t even know which comments to like
Anyone who hasn’t signed can still also add their names. The petition doesn’t get validated until it hits the magic 25%, which is a moving target as each month rolls on.
Not actually a moving target per se, the register of electors is updated a couple times a year, in between those updates the numbers do not change except very limited circumstances, upcoming elections, by-elections, referendums etc
Even when the numbers change they tend to only be a couple dozen people at a time, most Caymanians are already registered
Only in Wonderland!
