Joel Burke

(CNS): Joel Burke, the chief financial officer at the Community Affairs Ministry, has become the first person identified to take a permanent job at the government’s new department, Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC), which is expected to be up and running in January. Burke has been appointed as the deputy director of finance, administration and customer service and will start at the agency on 1 September. The government accountant will not only be responsible for the finances but its human resources and customer service sections, officials said.

WORC Interim Director Sharon Roulstone described the role as “multifaceted”, saying she was
“delighted” to welcome him to the team.

“Joel is the perfect candidate for this role,” Roulstone said. “He is a young, energized professional who desires to positively impact the lives of his fellow Caymanians. He has the qualifications and aptitude to achieve great things at WORC.”

Burke, who volunteers on a government committee responsible for training opportunities and software development, said he believed in government’s vision for the Cayman Islands. “It is exciting to be part of the department charged with changing the landscape of this country by empowering Caymanians to create a brighter future for generations to come.”

Having started his career at EY, where he earned his qualification as a certified public accountant, Burke held a number of finance related jobs before taking on the top financial role at community affairs.

    Dear All,
First and foremost, it is an honor to be appointed to the role of Deputy Director of WORC to support Ms. Roulstone in taking this sketch off the drawing board and making it a reality. I chose this role because I believe that we need to stand up for change – empowering each and every Caymanian who is willing and able to work to support their family and having a fulfilling life. I could be a passive onlooker or actively strive for change (I chose to be a part of change). All – I will work collaboratively with the team and stakeholders every day to make this a success. Those with constructive criticism – I welcome the feedback as through continuous quality improvement, we will get it right.

    Cayman, positive change is coming.

Actually his only knowledge is finance… whats his track record for overall customer service teams and administration? cant be much if he just got promoted a few months before in his current role. Although Immigration collects a lot of money it does not need a CPA. Seems like a wasted qualification where he’s going too and Cayman needs people like him to take up top roles in accountant firms and all of its Caymanian CPA’s it can get. I noticed it was a lateral move because his current post is at the same salary grade of his new post? go figure!

Its posts like these that confirm that while you may have some Caymanians willing to go the extra mile and WORK, you have others who just say ‘he/she took my job”. It’s not that anyone, or no other nationality is taking any Caymanians jobs, most of you all are just lazy and..badmind and feel entitled to such. Its a competitive world, everything requires you to do your best to get what you want.

Bolt isn’t the fastest man because he’s Jamaican and he may eat ackee and sal’fish?!??! The speed had to be developed in time with training. Now what that does that mean for everything else in life? Just ponder on that.

      Sincerely,

      A Caymanian, born and bred.

Sharon is the Director. She will have Deputy Directors managing specific areas within their expertise under her overall supervision and direction.

Didn’t he JUST get promoted to CFO at community affairs and wasn’t he then all the things to that post that Sharon says about him now for this one? Watch out Franz if you are not careful you will give him your job in your sleep.

Caymanians like you always got a dumb reason to pull down other hard working Caymanians even when they’re in the headlines for something good, not bad. Bet if that was your family you wouldn’t be saying s#!7.

Signed, a Caymanian who is sick of the crabs in a bucket mentality.

I didn’t give any reason for what I said. I didn’t say anything to pull him down. I’m simply observing that he was promoted to his current role with great fanfare only a few months ago. I am not a civil servant; I have no axe to grind here. I find it odd that he would be moved from a job he was perfect for to another job he is also perfect for in like 6 months. I am glad he inspires such confidence in his colleagues and seems like the man for every job. Where are the other rising stars? Why was it necessary to take him from a position he probably just got on top of to move him to a brand new agency? Who is replacing him in his current role? What kind of talent management is this? I have nothing against him; best of luck to him – it seems he is needed everywhere.

Why do you assume that the writer of the above IS Caymanian???
To assume that they are, is well…..the same thing you are claiming to hate so.

        Just saying.

Salty are they who can’t, or have not gotten anywhere or where they want to be in life. Giving themselves high blood pressure, for what…He’s aspiring to inspire, and the negative commentators or doing what exactly? Collecting their minimum wage because they’re not willing to work for anything more than what they have.

If you believe it, you can achieve it…simple as that. Many of us don’t wait for the luxe life to fall into our lap, its call bussin’ your a…..for it……hard work, not hardly working.

Congrats, Joel! All The Best! Make Us Proud!

Some of us aren’t content with being stagnant (google it), some of us have more ambition, some of us want more for ourselves than what the majority will settle for, some of us are tired of working with dead weights… Have you gone any further in life than the post you got into after high school?
