One person critical after single-car smash
(CNS): Police said that one person was in the hospital in a critical condition Saturday after an early morning single-vehicle crash on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway. All four people who were in the car at the time of the smash were hurt and taken to the George Town hospital. While two of them have since been treated and released, another victim was transferred to Health City in East End for further treatment.
Police have not revealed any other details of the latest serious collision, which happened around 3am on 2 June and saw both sides of the major roadway closed off until lunchtime.

Wouldn’t have taken so long if the driver had a different last name.
Trying to justify the unjustifiable TIm TIm you do the math nearly 9 hours to investigate a single car off the road accident while paralyzing almost the entire Georgetown for nearly 3 hours you right we need to investigate it ourselves. Not to mention putting others at risk if another serious emergency or incident in that vicinity had occurred which required an immediate response how would they responded to that ??? People like you keep making excuses and condoning this ineptness and incompetence of the Rcips and this leadership until you get victimized by it.
No comment from the RCIPS .. what would that take?
On the subject of closing roads and making chaos… Todays Gov event (not too bad), two carnivals when one is plenty, the carnival nights on Harbour Drive when Royal Watler or Cardinal Avenue could easily accommodate these events, putting a bouncy castle and a picnic table in front of the museum. And just because they can… The music events for Margaritaville and Hard Rock.
whats the use of all the CC Tv’s and none seem to be located in the correct spots or even work
These comment are police haters! If you think you do a better job then F@#king work for the police force! Otherwise shut your mouth!
11:40 am , If you clean up your mouth , your brain might work better to be able to write a more intelligent comment .
I am not sure in which direction the vehicle was going, but heading south on the ETH is currently quite dangerous – especially where three lanes head into a roundabout and one lane exits the roundabout. No lines are painted to indicate where each vehicle should go/who has the right of way. I’ve almost been hit twice on that roundabout and it is a major accident waiting to happen. NRA needs to address that with some urgency!
No, people just need to drive more carefully.
You would think that after this crash on Saturday, you would see more police on the streets on Sunday. All I saw were racing Hondas and one-wheeling dirt bikes. Also heard several cars on shamrock road with what sounded like nitros systems.
This has go to be a troll. Please tell me, how exactly does a nitrous sytem sound?
Stick to the article at hand, because the “racers” were doing their part on Sunday to keep it off our streets and on the track.
How do you think they got to the track? They don’t own trailers.
Actually, the non-street legal ones do. And I doubt the street legal ones are going to waste their expensive gas racing to the track to not have any to use at the track.
Suuureeeee, cause all these bikes on the street are road worthy. Lol
The vehicle had left the roadway, gone airborne, and collided with an NRA road grader. Neither were on or near the paved roadway surface. While we’re on the topic, I hope the NRA will be putting in an Armco barrier to contain the two levels of traffic which are offset by a few feet in some sections. This would never be allowed anywhere else.
But we are not anywhere else.
7:04 am , are you implying that the NRA should have had the grader better protected and out of the way of this stupid driver that left the road and ran into parked grader parked way of the road . That kind of thing do happen everywhere else, while doing road work, at the end of the day they do park the equipment way of the road , or continues to work 24 hours per day until the job is finished . Some people have to learn to drive on the road , and stay on the road while they are driving .
That accident can’t in no way be blamed on the NRA equipment , I won’t further speculate to the reasons for the accident .
Two levels of traffic is very common in the UK.
Forget the UK this island aint nowhere near it.
The machine in question belongs to ISLAND PAVING. Get that right..
The Police are incompetent, that is the simple truth. No way does it take that long, they closed the road because they are lazy.
What a stupid and bigoted response.
Ooh lets try and use the ‘bigoted’ in the correct context. The comment is an opinion based on empirical evidence. Try responding with a more convincing counter argument.
“No way does it take that long” is empirical evidence now? Sorry but gut feelings are far from empirical
Ok simply put, the empirical evidence is the large traffic congestion caused by the lengthy delay created by the police which leads to the opinion. Do you get it now?
Road closed for 1/2 day buy some idiot driver. Scrap them up and toss them in the hospital and open the GOD DAMN ROADS! What foolish RCIP officers can’t see they are blocking peoples productivity and hendering other emergency vehicles through that period by causing an unnessecary almost island wide traffic JAM! Stupid is what stupid does !
Here here…seriously ..accident around 2am and the road closed for 9-10 hours. Need some professional accident investigators down here. Jesus. Measurements, pictures, maybe a few more pictures, and clear the scene. Absolute rubbish.
My sympathy for all the victims , why the investigation of the accident takes so long , is because they want to make sure that when it goes to court that the Judge can tell then that the evidence was collected was wrong and have to dismiss the case . I have seen traffic accidents where there is multiple deceased victims that should take many hours to investigate . Not when there’s a one vehicle , and all victims are taken to Hospital .
What and drag these “hard working professionals” out of bed at 2 in the morning?
To be fair bit difficult to process a road traffic accident scene for admissible evidence, including pictures and search for debris, in the dark. Agree it seems odd that it takes that long after first light, but at the same time closing the ETH is not the end of the world if WB road is still open, and wouldn’t you rather they got it right than see any potential court proceedings – there is someone in hospital after all – screwed up because they rushed it?
Does the traffic department have a drone, or contracted with a person who has a drone? If they are taking photos and using measuring tapes I am sure some aerial pics could speed up the information gathering process.
That’s 21st century, no chance.
Traffic was at a complete standstill until well past noon. Why did it take so long to process the area? Why were there no alerts on cellphones to reroute traffic? What did the car collide with?
Yes! What a ridiculous amount of time. Why was that?
The car collided with a parked NRA vehicle that was well away from the main road off near the bushes where they’re paving the new stretch.
Magnetic attraction?
Exactly, ridiculous amount of time to “investigate” an accident that was not even on the main road . Take pictures and measurements and open the darn road! Six hours after sunrise to do that? There is no way the RCiPS can justify that amount of time..
