Local man admits having illegal gun
(CNS): Kenny Ray Sitaram (25) has become the latest young man to admit the illegal possession of a firearm and is now looking at serving at least seven years in jail. The George Town man was pulled over in November on Smith Road by police, who found an unlicensed semi-automatic pistol and four rounds of 9mm ammunition in his car. Sitaram pleaded guilty on Friday and was remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing hearing in April.
The police had stopped Sitaram after they were called to a report of an assault at a gas station on Walkers Road. The suspect had fled the scene but officers tracked his car down, and when they pulled him over he ran off.
Police later searched Sitaram’s home, where they found a large quantity of ganja. Soon afterwards Sitaram handed himself in and he was arrested and charged with the possession of the gun. He is also facing drug charges in summary court.
He is now due to be sentenced on 9 April.
American gun fetishism has pervaded many countries in the west Cayman is no different this idea that guns are cool, and should be used to solve problems in civilian hands
This mindset that somehow more guns will keep people safe, it is mind-boggling to think that so many people have just convinced themselves to completely ignore all facts and logic in favour of having guns
All that being said without even mentioning the criminal element
Is it worth spending 10 years of your life behind bars if caught?
The tourists might get off with a fine and a slap on the wrist but if you live here good luck.
Guns are equalizers when placed in the right hands. You don’t want to be robbed feeling helpless and wishing you had a gun to protect yourself. What isn’t cool about guns is when idiots have them for no good reason (unlicensed with the intent to create mayhem).
Oh yes, first gut reaction – it’s an American thing staining the island…again. Who would’ve thunk?
There was a time… when nearly every household in Cayman had a firearm…
It says GEORGE TOWN man so why people got to always comment deportation order because of a foreign sounding name? Not defending him, use your common sense. If he was a foreigner they would say so.
Wow! All these “Caymanians” with strange names that were never before known in Cayman. Clearly these people originate from elsewhere. I gather they are either “new” Caymanians by status grant or are resident on work permit!
In any case, seems like we’ve imported everyone’s trash!!
these so called new Caymanians gonna ruin cayman.
Already ruined by haters like yourself. Such a shame.
You’re an idiot. Everybody with a name other than Bush, Ebanks Bodden or is strange to Cayman huh? Kenny is a born Caymanian, he is not a “new Caymanian” he is not a “work permit holder”. The comments and logic that some of the posters write on here baffles me. You are ignorant. If he is trash, then he is OURS. So sick of the BS you people get up and WRITE ON HERE EVERYDAY!
Who – People is ?
I’m with 5:18. It’s always “never a Caymanian”. Oh goodness no-
You are missing the subtleties and layers of defence or differentiation – first, Caymanian versus expat, next born Caymanian versus came by plane/paper Caymanians, and if that fails, then multi generational Caymanian versus second generation, especially if they are descended from a status grant recipient. Finally, any Jamaican ancestry inside 3 generations usually fatal as well.
You are an Idiot. You are so dumb.Do you know that the Surnames found here are in other countries as well.
#EverydayCaymankindRacism.
Looks like you gathered wrong. He’s your own trash. Oops.
Cannot identify a native Caymanian by a common local name any more. The father or maybe the mother could have an unusual non-Caymanian name, or the woman could be carrying a odd name from a marriage either present or past.
I’m one of them! And I am 100% Caymanian of several generations. No doubt there are many more. Can’t judge a book by its cover.
He grew up here and went to school here with a strong Cayman accent…strange name? Racist asshole and you might be the darkest weirdest person in here talking shit creep
Deportation order!
Its not the testosterone that is the problem, its the IQ of someone who thinks that having an illegal firearm is a good idea. And as the saying goes, you can’t fix stupid.
Is someone going to seek a deportation order as part of this process?
This young man IS Caymanian! Just because he doesn’t have a common everyday “Caymanian” last name doesn’t mean he’s otherwise.
CNS needs to “deport” some of you judgmental idiots for the comments you make. Even if he was an expat, half of our own CAYMANIANS have been going to jail for years for guns/murder but once we hear a strange name, it’s “Oh, let’s deport him!”
Sorry to burst your hopes of deportation bubble. Our own kind commit these offences everyday.
Obviously the sentencing at the moment is not enough to dissuade these low-lives. If they are locked up until their testosterone is substantially depleted the good law abiding people of the community will be the winners.
