McKeeva Bush and the Independents
(CNS): An hour before midnight Friday night and some six hours after he signed a deal with the leader of the Progressives to form a government, citing the “interests of the nation”, McKeeva Bush appeared to have backed out of that agreement, where he would have been made speaker, and secured himself the premiership instead. CNS has been unable to confirm the details with official sources but pictures of Bush with all of the independents, except Tara Rivers, posted on social media and believed to have been taken at the Grand Pavillion, show Bush back in control of government.
In another surprise twist in Cayman’s first ever OMOV poll in single-member constituencies, the least likely scenario has taken shape where the independents have been coerced into offering Bush the top job in order to seize back their chance at control. The deal was said to have been brokered by Dr Steve Tomlinson.
CNS was unable to get confirmation from Alden McLaughlin about what appears to be a bait and switch move by Bush and whether or not the PPM already had a possible counter-plan.

Here’s the thing – its not Alden’s decision. The Independents are not necessarily listening to him, but to Dr Steve. Perhaps you should address your comments to him.
The PPM/IND coalition now apparently agreed upon should have been completed within an hour of the final results announcement on Wednesday night. The PPM had 7 plus 1 and are the incumbent government, and were the obvious ones to lead the formation of a coalition. Alden did not recognize and own the situation and the result is the fiasco of the past 3 days. Thank God that is behind us, the only mistake being the suggestion of Mac being speaker. Why are they making him think he is indispensable when he is not. The speaker should be someone with integrity. 4 more years in opposition and he will finally get the message – time to retire. CDP is dead because it was not really a party but Mac and his blind following. If he is serious about creating a viable party he can spend the next 4 years grooming new blood and he needs to start by stepping down as leader and appointing someone new and with a future, maybe Jonathan Piercy if he’s not totally disillusioned. I wrote in a CNS blog some weeks ago that Jonathan should not run under the CDP banner because it was clear from last election that the country had rejected the CDP and at that stage McKeeva if he was not so self-centered and power hungry could have transferred the leadership to someone else eg, Chris Saunders, who ran very well in 2013, not just change the name from UDP to CDP.
