Oh dear me. How awful for this gentleman who chose this beautiful island to enjoy with his family and to go home deceased. So many times this has happened with tourists. Operators of these tours really need to be more vigilant. So very sad. My condolences to his dear family.

This is really sad and likely avoidable. Having just been on one of our mainstay trips with guests, I gotta say, the quality of rental snorkeling gear is horrible (even with major operators). Try snorkeling with the flimsy cheap fins masks and snorkels these operations are using. Getting into windy surf with gear that doesn’t perform is stressful. It’s a wonder there aren’t more heart attacks or accidents. We need to have some minimum common quality standards across the board. Snorkelers should always have a designated buddy and the operators (if they aren’t in the water) need to actively lifeguard our guests in rough water. None of this is happening now, despite recurring loss of life.

Completely agree, there are numerous things that can be done to help prevent these senseless deaths.
