Owners urged not to leave boat fuel tanks full
(CNS): Boat owners are being urged by the RCIPS Joint Marine Unit to take extra security measures with their boats to avoid what the police described as “opportunistic thefts”. Officers warned owners not to leave too much fuel in the tanks aboard their boats to make them less attractive. Aside from locking their vessels, officers said owners should think about installing GPS tracking or systems that can remotely disable boats.
“In addition to added security features, one simple tip is to limit the amount of fuel in a vessel,” said Inspector Leo Anglin, Marine Commander. “With only fifty miles worth of fuel a thief cannot get very far. Full fuel tanks, however, can make a boat a more attractive target.”

Enforcing laws and catching crooks is just not how things are done here. Better to spend the polices time with cleaning up after the crime. More cost effective. And culturally excepted.

What Inspector Anglin really means is, there are still 3-4 suspects at large from the canoe that came ashore in East End three weeks ago, the weather has now finally calmed down and we are expecting them to steal a boat to get back to Jamaica.
Perhaps they should put a marine unit over the next few nights at the main Channel and stop all boats heading out after dark.
