(CNS): Staff at the Needs Assessment Unit raised the alarm on Wednesday morning after a 34-year-old Bodden Town man, described by department officials as “unstable”, made threats against them when his assessment was denied. When he turned up at the NAU at around 10:45am, more police were called to assist the two officers already deployed at the social welfare office in George Town because, based on his earlier telephone threats, the staff were very concerned that he might be armed with a gun.

The RCIPS said their officers were able to “skilfully contained the man in a way that caused him no harm but prevented any use of a firearm”.  The man was subsequently searched and no firearm was found. However, when his vehicle was searched, the police found a quantity of ganja as well as a utensil.

He was arrested on suspicion making threats to kill and drug-related offences before being taken into custody and alter bailed.
