Martin Drive

(CNS): Two men were treated in hospital Friday night and Saturday morning for injuries sustained into separate violent incidents in George Town. In the first incident three men attacked and attempted to rob another man in the Martin Drive, off Shedden Road in central George Town, during a street mugging. In the second incident, in the early hours of Saturday morning an 18-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest with an ice-pick outside a bar in Seven Mile Shops.

Police said that they were sent to the scene of the first incident at 10:09 Friday evening, where the victim reported he had put up a fight during the attempt to rob him of his phone and had been punched and kicked in the face. He was later transported to the George Town hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries. That incident happened in the same street where Jason Powery was killed in July and where a number of other violent crimes have occurred this year, giving particular cause for concern in the Scranton area for residents and the police.

Police were told about the second victim by staff at the George Town hospital when the 18-year-old man arrived there seeking treatment for a stab wounds to his chest. Police discovered that he was assaulted in the parking lot of the Nectar Bar on West Bay Road by another man with an ice pick.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both incidents and anyone with information is asked to call George Town Police Station at 9494222 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477)
