(CNS): Miss Cayman Islands has been behaving badly, it appears, as the pageant committee has issued a disciplinary letter to the beauty queen over her conduct and the performance of her duties. Officials from the Miss Cayman Islands Committee are remaining mum on the details of Toni Chisholm’s alleged bad behavior but sources tell CNS that the North Side woman has been partying a little hard, dressing inappropriately and, above all, not turning up for or fulfilling the obligations that come with the tiara and the sash.

The committee appears to have lost the battle to keep a lid on the mischief that Miss Cayman Islands seems to have been getting up to and has admitted that the 26-year-old from North Side needs some coaching before she represents Cayman in the Miss Universe contest later this year.

In response to enquiries about what the trouble was, committee chair Derri Dacres-Lee told CNS that the matter of Miss Cayman’s conduct had been resolved and she has accepted that the disciplinary warning was warranted and “improvements need to be made to ensure that going forward, she performs her duties in accordance with her contract”.

As a result, it appears that the pageant queen will be receiving extra support and coaching on what is expected of her as the titleholder of Miss Cayman Islands.

“The committee is now meeting to discuss the areas where Tonie needs additional assistance and identify the most effective ways to provide that supplementary support,” she said, adding that the committee wanted to move forward to provide her “with the coaching she evidently needs”.

Pointing out that the Cayman Islands will be participating in the Miss Universe pageant, where Chisholm will compete alongside experienced contestants from all over the world, Dacres-Lee said, “Preparing for an international event of this caliber takes intense training and a lot of hard work. The Committee is working in earnest to ensure that Tonie is fully prepared for the pageant and supported within a positive environment while this is taking place.”

Sources tell CNS that this is not the first warning Miss Cayman has received for behaving badly and raises the question about the selection process just as the committee begins the hunt for contestants for the 2016 pageant.

Choosing not to outline the conduct which has led to the concerns and the need for her extra coaching and support, the committee said in a statement to Cayman 27 that it was disappointed the matter had reached the public domain.

“It is unfortunate that details of an issue concerning Miss Cayman that has already been handled and resolved by the Miss Cayman Islands committee have now become public bringing unnecessary scrutiny to what is essentially an internal matter.”

However, in the committee’s own words the role is far from a private one, as winners receive a four-year scholarship to attend university overseas, which is funded by government.

On its website the committee states that the Miss Cayman title is not just a beauty pageant “but an opportunity for young ladies to further their education and become leaders within our community”.

According to the terms and conditions on the sites, application forms holders are expected to act as ambassadors for the Cayman Islands at home and abroad. The winner signs a contract with the Department of Tourism and the website sets out clearly the expectations of crown holders to behave with decorum and not commit any immoral or illegal act that could bring the pageant into disrepute.

Titleholders also attend the Miss Word and Miss Universe contests on behalf of the country, although Chisholm has passed the age limit for Miss World and will not attend the contest.

So how is it that a ‘foreigner’ isn’t allowed to represent Cayman in a silly beauty pageant of no national or international significance, but can be seconded into the recent PanAm games?

This is just a silly outdated pageant. It is of no import whatsoever.

I don’t understand why this is an article? Due to the comments and the article itself Tonie has no chance of winning. Did anyone stop to think that
Miss world/universe would google her name? What she did is tame in comparison to the last beauty queen and many others before her. Why is Tonie being singled out?

  4. don't judge says:

After reading the comments above it only shows how jealous and cruel people are. You all need to stop being such hypocrites and leave Tonie alone. She’s human just like all of you! Bunch of ignorant people. Hope you or your family member ends up in a similar position so you can know how all of these comments would make her feel. Don’t judge others because god will judge you in the same way you’ve judged them.

When do recipients use their funds to go to college? Is its usage monitored to ensure they put it towards tuition?

Everyone makes mistakes in life u me she and the old lady!…” U lick her done U pick her up she’ll bounce right back”! Just making a point am an die heart fan of Cayman Islands born or not born doesn’t matter it’s the love for our place of living or love for our people is what should count…dragging one through the mud is unsatisfactory helping one to get up be supportive is an uplift-ment” wishing all the pass Miss Caymans could come to her time of need and help her as those who already has the experience of what the expectations should be!!! Love u all!!!!

  7. Sharkey says:

I think that if these allegations are true, Miss Chisholm has the responsibility to up hold the contract she signed with the crown and the title Miss Cayman, and to go beyond and show the feature young ladies how to be a good citizens and a outstanding Miss Cayman Islands candidate, because to further go into Miss Worlds competition , a outstanding resume’ always help with your beauty, but a bad resume’ goes nowhere with your beauty.

    • Sharkey says:

Stop being like Lindsay Loehan and Brittany Spears or some other a**ho that have their own wealth and reputation to destroy. Wearing a crown representing the Cayman Islands, is just like the Queen Elizabeth wearing her crown.

  8. Knot S Smart says:

In my books a ‘beautiful body’ like that can do nothing wrong…

“…not turning up for or fulfilling the obligations that come with the tiara and the sash.”

Hmmmm, sounds like she is in training for running for a political position. Will she be the replacement for Ezzard?

Toni is a great girl, and has not done anything to warrant this extreme type of action. Those of who know the truth know that most of the is petty behavior on the part of the Miss Cayman committee members.

    • Anonymous says:

Presumably one has to be pretty petty and small minded to be involved as something as inane and outdated as the Miss Cayman pageant?

    • Anonymous says:

That’ll be why she accepted the warning was justified then…

      • Anonymous says:

The biddies just want her to wear pancake make up, a gown and a tiara to the gas station, and she is a normal person. She is not a bit like the poor role model being suggested by this one sided report. And she is certainly nothing like that other Miss Cayman (we all know of whom I speak) to whom numerous uninformed posters refer. Crab city.

Its a shame all contests are closed to expats/ their children
My kids and their friends just couldn’t understand why they couldn’t do an event together
It was a big and important event in the community to the children
It was very hard to explain to a child that they were not the same as their friends

It was shocking a few years later to hear the racist comments the child said, It just rolled out of their mouths like it was normal

The past the present and the future

    • Wix says:

True and unfortunate. I have been here a long time but I know there are some who will never accept you. Like everywhere the some prejudice is masked, some is blatant. But it doesn’t mean it is not there.
Btw – Tonie is by far the peoples champ!

Eeejut – Caymanians are of all races!
Stop baiting & stirring the Cayman vs. Driftwood stink pot

    • Anonymous says:

There are rules and requirements set for who can enter the competition which are not dictated locally.

Expats are not allowed as they would not qualify to represent the country. In other words, this is not a limitation set by the Cayman Islands.

  12. Anonymous says:

OK then – the Private Sector is anxious to take over this pageant and run it properly..
Why don’t you then if you don’t like how it’s run??
    HUH?

  13. Anonymous says:

As much as I dislike these “pageants”, rules are to be followed. In most pageant cases inappropriate behavior is punished by removal and placing the runner up in Winner’s position. However, we all know this case is unusual and the rules never applied in the first place!!

  14. Jesus Freakazoid says:

Instead of many of you on here trying to condone and justify bad behavior why don’t encourage her to try and be her best and conduct her self in an exemplary manner. Like many others before her did.

  15. Anonymous says:

She sounds like a fun person!

  16. Anonymous says:

Stupid island with extreme double standard.
On one hand on sunday everything is closed and the majority of the people are religious jesus freaks, but on the other hand they judge a young lady on her body in a bikini.

  17. Anonymous says:

Have to love the dress modestly stipulation and yet the picture is her in a bikini which she had to get judged on… She is a wonderful person. Keep on Tonie!!

  18. Anonymous says:

WOW! Its so funny to see how quick People in Cayman locals and expats alike, can jump to conclusions. She is trying to be the best she can while under the spot light. GIve her a damn break. She accepted that she needs to do better and thats it, un-like our elected politicians who never think they do any wrong. My grandfather said” cayman is like crabs in a bucket, and soon as one get higher up, a next one comes and climbs on top push it back down”

  19. Anonymous says:

@ 5:42pm my goodness what hate you apparently have for the Caymanian people. It’s a shame that you have chosen to come upon these islands and throw insult like that. I am not from here but at least I respect the people and am grateful for being able to flourish in this country as I could not back home. There is good and bad in all nationalities and that comment was unnecessary!! Whatever she did at the end of the day it’s her future.

  23. Body Slam says:

She needs to speak to the last beauty queen who tried this $%#@ and ask her what happened to her life? I bet you that will straighten this mess up real quick?

  24. Gossip Sword says:

What a mess Notoriety appears to be king these days everybody wants to be either a Kim no talent Kardashian or Miley No Self respect Cyrus how sad for the waanabe’s cause they can ill afford to make mistake in this very very narrow minded town where just rumour alone can kill your future career and reputation dead!

OK! I understand what she did is wrong in the “pageant world” which yes as a role model for younger caymanian girls you have to act the part!

BUT NO @ 6:17!! the foreigners needs to go back to their own country and run for their pageants and leave ours alone!

Keep your head up Tonie! Caymanian Power!

Here’s an idea: stop wasting money on this foolishness altogether. Beauty pageants are a joke, but the Government spending our money on them isn’t funny

  27. Anonymous says:

Nope, sorry, never heard of her. Now back to real news …..

  28. Notoriety problem says:

How sad that we have a generation that simple have little or no values and respect for themselves or in fact for Cayman, but believe that you get recognize or established in society these day by demonstrating outrageous and rude behavior by creating dramatic and unwarranted situations because it seem hip or the latest trend..That may sell on TV now days but in real life that very seem attention usually brings very dangerous elements and criminal liabilities that most people can ill afford. Finally when you leave this life your dignity and respect are probably the only two things you are able to carry because regret and suffering are simple too heavy to lift for most. Right or wrong men are always judged at a lower standard than women. So steady on there Miss Chisolm because the steps you take today will determine how hard life will become tomorrow if you make it that far.

    • Anonymous says:

Are you referring to the generation that our elected officials are of? Cuz that’s who it sounds like you’re describing.

  29. Anonymous says:

What a joke! The behaviour standards are higher for Miss Cayman are than those for elected representatives.

  30. The Ewok says:

    Who?

  31. Anonymous says:

Of course the media would blow 1 imperfection into a bunch of bullshit. Keep your head up Tonie. People will talk whether you’re doing right or wrong.

  32. Anonymous says:

How typical of Caymanians to hunt their own. Rip them apart and then wonder why we can’t progress as a country. Shame on whoever in that committee leaked this internal matter. The young lady still deserves to be supported by her country in making the necessary changes she needs to as a representative who is under a ton of pressure. This should never have been made avail to the public. We have now made this public knowledge so that when she does go off to represent us this will be found on the Internet as thousands of people search her name. That will surely help us/her?

Some of the same ones you talk about deserving the crown are out here doing drugs and sleeping around in secret…. but hey you won’t notice because your focus is no longer on them. The Miss Cayman Islands shouldn’t be seen out partying but our very own politicians can be seen buying hookers in the bar room. Do we need to go into some of the not so tasteful behaviour of even committee members that’s has been witnessed publicly. Some of them need to be retired from their position on that committee. Old and dried out with their old fashion ways and their hypocritical attitudes.

Cheer her on, smile in her face, talk about how great she is and the minute she makes a mistake turn around and talk bad about her. I have had very few interactions with her and I can honestly say she is genuinely a beautiful person who worked hard to get that crown. This article is in such poor taste CNS!

  33. Anonymous says:

    What a joke.

  34. Anonymous says:

Oh how the mighty have fallen!! Miss Cayman is not won, it is earned, and earned anew each day, in word and in deed. Tonie would do well to remember that in future, if she wants to continue enjoying her ‘celebrity’ status.

  35. Anonymous says:

So who she suppose to be now?????

    *eyes pop out head*

It’s a crying shame, especially when everybody knew who should have really gotten that Crown.

at least the “sore loser” knows how to behave accordingly, you ol’ troll.

        • No name needed says:

As in the sore loser whom is seen drunk on the weekends, secretive smoking and throwing up all over the place? Seriously you seem to also be a sore loser. Why blame Toni? It was the judges who gave her the crown. Obviously they felt she deserved it!

  39. Just Sayin' says:

She has been a naughty girl and clearly needs to be punished. I’m here to help.

  40. Anonymous says:

So why does she get to keep the crown? Surely we can find someone who would actually appreciate the opportunity and not waste it?!? 26 is not so young that it can be blamed on age! She is just ungrateful and clearly has better things to do with her time!

  41. Knot S Smart says:

    Oh Dear!

  42. Anonymous says:

may be if the committee will find soem interesting events etc for her to attend and actually make a contribution to this country she would attend. zzzzzzz

  43. Anonymous says:

Ridiculous, Toni Chisholm has brains as well as beauty which not many beauty queens throughout the world are born with! This day and age we are surrounded by social media is she expected to lock herself away from the outside world? She dresses very appropriately in my opinion to fit with modern times and looks amazing.

I have heard her on the radio and she is a very talented young lady and Cayman should be proud and support her achievements.

    • Anonymous says:

So you think the committee disciplined her for nothing? You think the committee is lying? You are not by her side and cannot possibly know what she gets up to. Calm yourself. It is all sorted and hopefully this warning will make an impact.

    • Anonymous says:

Yeah… she can’t possibly have done anything wrong, she’s Caymanian!

I’ve seen her on the radio, too! Wowsers!

The finest are from North Side…just like the welcoming committee of petty drug dealers across from the Barn/Kurt Tibbetts corner. Sometimes you have to stop in the middle of the road to wait for the transactions to finish…I love North Side, but some times its interesting just getting to Jack’s Gas Station
