(CNS): Police have revealed that the gunman who shot three people in the early hours of Saturday morning at an after-hours session in George Town fired indiscriminately into a crowd of people. An RCIPS spokesperson said that officers are looking into the possibility that one of the victims was targeted but said the gunman gave no consideration for anyone who was present. One victim remains in the ICU in serious condition while two others have been treated and released following the shooting in Sparky Drive.

“No arrests have been made as yet in connection to this latest shooting incident, where multiple victims have been injured while present in the early hours of the morning for an after hours session,” a police spokesperson stated. “We are looking into the possibility that one of the victims was targeted in this attack. However, the apparent indiscriminate way those responsible shot into a crowd of people is of particular concern as there is no consideration for the lives or wellbeing of persons who are there and not involved in any way.”

The victim with the most serious injuries underwent extensive surgery Saturday and police said he is in a serious but stable condition, while the woman who was shot was released Sunday and the third victim, a 23-year-old man who received a single gunshot wound, was treated and released on Saturday.

The shooting, which comes following the seizure of five illegal weapons by the RCIPS in less than two weeks, happened at about 3am Saturday (13 June) in the industrial area of the capital. A major incident room has been established at the GT police station, where CID is investigating.

This is the second time this year that multiple victims have been shot at an after-hours session. On 28 March three women were shot an early morning session in McField Square when two gunmen reportedly opened fire into a crowd. Police made a number of arrests in the case and have charged 34-year-old Randy James Parchment in connection with that shooting. All three women reportedly recovered from their injuries, though one of the women was shot multiple times.

Anyone with information in connection with the latest shooting in Sparky Drive or who may have witnessed this incident is urged to contact 949-4222, or Cayman Crime Stoppers to report this crime anonymously on 800 8477 (TIPS).

Things will never change until we the public stop glorifying criminality and bad behaviors, until we move away from seeing ourselves as informers if we give information to the police. The police does not have an all seeing eye, we are there eyes and ears. The fight against crime starts with us.

Over 100 people still at the scene and not one of them sees anything. THAT is the problem. Not the police. Not the politicians. The people that are members of the community, but never see a thing. THEY are allowing the problem to continue. Until a bullet catches one of their family members then they will want to become involved and at that point it is too late.

There is a desperate need for more gated communities. I need my family to be kept as far away as possible from the lawlessness.

STOP the after-hour sessions and restrict the liquor license premises from serving alcohol to 3am. The decision was a mistake from the start! Look at the times that these vicious senseless crimes are taking place. It’s after clubs have closed and people are so intoxicated they become stupid, arrogant and aggressive. The recent hit and run fatalities was caused by drunk drivers. A more proactive approach by the RCIPS needs to be done, showing more Police presence at venues with liquor licenses. Oft times you can watch individuals walk out of a club/party/Mango Tree and they are very intoxicated and get into their vehicles and drive away. Therefore if Police were there, even in plain clothing (undercover) they would be able to keep the roads safer by preventing that person from driving which would result in our roads being safer. Let them wake up in jail to drive home a point! That will get their attention! If you don’t have a designated driver, call a taxi and if you can’t do either then be responsible and stay home but don’t be selfish and put the lives of the community in danger by being irresponsible! The public also need to do their part by reporting individuals that are seen driving that are evidently intoxicated. Take down the license plate number, color, make and model of the vehicle and report it to the police. It could save someone’s life or even lives.

Totally agree on every count. The “sessions” that happen on a nearly weekly basis in Prospect Drive are totally unacceptable. This is a residential area and with children let alone adults trying to sleep with anything up to 100 cars arriving and disappearing very noisily between the hours of 1am and 5am it’s no wonder the residents are getting extremely annoyed. Prospect Drive and the surrounding area has it’s problems and it certainly does not need any more firearms or crime in addition due to these sessions. Noise from cars, noise from party goers, abuse when you ask them politely not to park IN your yard (let alone across your drive), trash including broken glass, cups and used condoms. The host of these parties is enjoying the cash return while the law-abiding residents have to clean up after and look forward to sleepless Saturday nights. Set up road blocks, breathalise those that want to pass through and just shut these illegal sessions down. Everyone loves a good party now and again, but it starts to grate when it is EVERY week at the SAME address. There are laws against such activity: educate your Police officers about the breaches that are carrying on and get a senior police officer who is not afraid to take the first steps and shut it down. Wasn’t there a similar property in GT that was hosting such sessions which has been shut down?

More Foreign Cops than Quakers have Oats What a mess this place is in? I bet you if shots were fired by Legge’s house a warship would be station offshore.

Stationed. Note the ending. It assists with effective communication, including if requesting naval support.

So for you its the foreign Cops that are responsible for the local crime? I bet if shots were fired in front of your house you would not call the cops right? Or would you just request that only Caymanian Cops come save you? Maybe you can talk to your leadership and see if they can work something out for all you ex-pat hating voters. S
Sounds like they feel the same way.

Sorry Massa, but we cant all be like some of the award recipients that are totally indifferent and deliberately oblivious to what is happening to this little island and our people, or those who prop up or employ those just like you to benefit greatly from the absolute chaos and mayhem we face on a daily basis. Like the posters said far too many here carrying out their own agendas…. which is not to protect or preserve or make these islands safe to live.

        • Pogo says:

Which award recipient do you mean?

        • Rodney Trotter says:

Easy to come on here and make sweeping comments of who is not doing anything.
How about telling the population what you have done about the problem, what you are going to do about it and you are not going to sit back and rely on “furriners” to do it for you.

    • Rodney Trotter says:

Please don’t miss an opportunity to throw your sentiments out there regarding “furriners” brought here to work on your behalf.

I would say that this prevailing mindset that seems to seep through is worthy of a further editorial!

Every time this RCIPS’s commissioner starts crying about “a man power Shortage” These alarming shootings seem to occur. just saying its very odd. What I can say though in Derek Haines days these late night functions always had a police coverage or presence in the vicinity to put a stop to any situations occurring. These days we have all these “specialist” from overseas armed to the teeth looking like special forces and people constantly getting shot up. As for protecting our borders that’s a virtual myth what’s not a myth is the enormous amount of money we the public are having to pay this hoard from overseas to do nothing and all we can here is we need more. How much more police officers is this commissioner going to bring from Jamaica and the UK?

  9. Warren Peace says:

C’mon. This is domestic terrorism. Mandatory life without any possibility of parole.

Politicians stop worrying about treasonous gnomes and FOCUS ON REAL THREATS.

  10. Sharkey says:

I wonder if the police really questioned the two victims and other people who were on the scene at time before making a statement like this.
