Tarpon academy leader bags JGHS deputy principal job
(CNS): Patricia Forbes has been appointed as the new deputy principal of John Gray High School (JGHS) for the 2015-2016 calendar year, government officials announced Thursday. Forbes, who was acting deputy principal of Tarpon Academy and the school’s teaching and learning coordinator, has been promoted after Matthew Holmes, the former deputy principal, stepped into the acting principal’s job, replacing Lyneth Monteith, who is now acting chief education officer.
Forbes began her teaching career at John Gray High School almost three decades ago. She has held middle and senior management responsibilities including sports coordinator for Marlin Academy, subject leader for the Business Studies Department, associate teaching & learning coordinator for Wahoo Academy, teaching & learning coordinator and acting deputy principal for Tarpon Academy.
She has participated in marking CXC exams, attended CXC workshops in Jamaica and GCSE standardization exercises in the UK, as well as considerable professional development in education, including special educational needs (SEN).
Acting Chief Education Officer Lyneth Monteith said she was delighted Forbes had been confirmed as the deputy principal.
“I wish her all the best and look forward to working with her as we not only continue to strive towards improvements at John Gray, but towards improvements across the entire government school system,” the CEO said in a release from the ministry announcing the appointment.
Acting Chief Officer Christen Suckoo congratulated Forbes. “Ensuring that our Caymanian educators continue to develop their skills and obtain opportunities, including those for advancement, is very important not only to me but to the work of the Ministry of Education,” he said.

What is going on here ? Not one of the staff mentioned in the article appears to be in a permanent role, every single one is ‘acting’. Cayman does love that term for sure.
