Immigration to open late Wednesdays

(CNS): After years of pleading from its customers, the immigration department is finally introducing late night opening, albeit on just one evening per week. Government officials have confirmed that, starting tomorrow, Wednesday 11 March, the office will be open for business until 7pm. If the extended service proves to be popular it is possible that another day will be added, officials said.

“We realise that sometimes it’s just too much of a rush for people to take care of immigration matters on their lunch hours,” said Samantha Bennett, Deputy Chief Officer of Immigration. “By extending the opening hours we are catering to our customers and giving them an option.”

Staff will be reshuffled to offer the enhanced customer service, just one of many changes that are in the works to make immigration more customer-friendly.

Normal business hours at Immigration Office on Elgin Avenue will now be Monday to Friday 8:30am until 4pm and 8:30am until 7pm on Wednesday.

How come some immigration officials facing charges get to go on leave while others facing charges remain at their jobs?
It seems to be up to personal choice
and not a requirement to go on leave when facing jail time.

It may benefit the island as a whole if they do not open at all.

They may find they would get more people processed if
    1) staff arrived on time and were work ready
    2) staff who arrive late, log in and dont walk away from their station for 30 minutes at a time. A novel idea would be to actually start work upon arrival.
    3) absences from work stations were monitored
    4) managers actually manage the process
