Suspect gunman charged after turning himself in

(CNS) UPDATED: Michael Lopez Watler (22) from West Bay has now been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm. He has been remanded in custody and his case transferred to Grand Court. Watler was arrested on firearms charges Tuesday after he turned himself into the Cayman Islands Detention Centre. The police issued a wanted notice for the suspect gunman last month in which they said he was considered dangerous.

The charges relate to a spate of gang-related gun violence this summer. Watler is accused of firing a gun on two occasions in West Bay on the night of 10 July, once along West Church Street and then again sometime later at a residence on Birch Tree Hill Road.
