CBC and 911 ‘lose’ 14 migrants
(CNS): The Customs and Border Control Service has revealed that it is unable to verify the whereabouts of 14 Cuban migrants who were living in rented private accommodation and wearing electronic tags. In a release issued Friday, the CBC said that the Department of Public Safety Communications (DPSC) had informed them on Monday they had lost all connection with the monitoring devices that they were wearing. Five days later they have still not been located.
In the brief release about the migrants CBC said that it is currently working with the necessary authorities on the “active investigation”. Officials asked for the public’s assistance in finding the migrants, saying their “welfare and safety” was “of paramount concern”.
They did not state whether or not there was reason to believe the migrants had returned to sea to continue what was likely to have been their original goal of reaching the United States via Central America. Officials offered no further details or descriptions of the 14 individuals, who were being monitored after they were moved to the community in order to meet human rights obligations.

Not incompetence but Excellent solution to a trying problem. If they want to leave let um leave, just wait for them to reach somewhere and then report them missing. Some one should get an award for saving CI Government the future cost for housing those ungrateful persons. Make the Human Rights Commission pay for their expenses; they insist that we treat them as VIP guests when in fact they are here illegally.
They had ackle bracelets. I heard 911 who was monitoring them only notice they were gone 5 days after they left and was fou d by Mexico coast guard. LOL. 911 also monitor persons on bail. LHM.
And quarantiners. Some similarity there with the jet skier and the Canadian couple – monitoring team only noticed they were missing when someone else told them. So we can all sleep easy in our beds mowing those eagle eyed public servants are protecting us from harm.

This is absolutely a disgrace. I can understand loosing 1 or 2 but 14?
The DSPC informed Customs and Border Control of the loss of contact on Monday but was this the day they lost contact or had this gone unnoticed for some time, and did all 14 disappear simaltaneously?. I suppose if the police can lose a 47 year old lady, 3 times over the drink limit from their police car, this loss of “monitored” immigrants is par for the Civil Service course.
Keep these Migrants in detention. I am sure they are in Honduras by now. Smuggled out by someone in the private sector.

Had to put it put before the Mexican authorities had announced they had found them lol. Bit like the Canadian couple – only got announced because someone saw the court appearance. Otherwise we would never hear about it.
Wish we lost them more often. They cost far too much and are demanding and ungrateful. Imagine A/C & hot water neither of which they have in Cuba.
Anyway good riddance to those 14, that will save the cayman tax payers a lot of money, that’s a good Christmas present for Caymanians/Residence

Government must stop encouraging them to come and stay, then issue demands for what they were not afforded in Cuba. Imagine demanding air conditioning. The money they are spending on them, they need to spend on low income families here.
