$2.35M of cocaine found on beach by DoE
(CNS): Officers from the Department of Environment stumbled across a massive haul of cocaine while on patrol in the Collier’s Beach area of East End last Tuesday. Just after 11:30am the team came across a torn duffle bag with taped packages inside. The bag turned out to contain 20 parcels of what was believed to be cocaine, weighing over 52lbs, which would have had a street value of more than $2.35 million.
The police who responded to the DoE call took possession of the significant drug haul. An extensive search of the affected shoreline was then carried out by land-based officers, the police helicopter and Cayman Islands Coast Guard to ensure that no other packages had come ashore. However, no other suspicious items were found during the search.
The contents of the packages have now destroyed at the landfill with the assistance of the Department of Environmental Health.

Because the drugs we make illegal and seize every year is the money we THE COMMUNITY spend to stop them and then cops make money keeping it illegal so they have jobs.
How many old fokes in Cayman on 3-4 Pharmaceuticals while drinking a coffee and a burger in the other hand. Telling us they don’t use drugs.
Please
Everyone has their drug of choice. Speed coke? How many of you drive over the speed limit?
Such a fools man game for foolish hoomans.
Will this go missing from the police station as well?
There are going to be some REALLY upset realtors and their friends out there..
Never been a better time to get coked up
But all coked up and no place to go is a drag.
Realtors……? what does this have to do with realtors.?
Really! And here I thought it was lawyers in conference rooms!
And basically anyone in the offshore or bar/restaurant service industries. Must be tough now that the bars are closed on SMB, but at least they don’t need to worry about staying awake.
Should have sold it on to some of our regional partners to pay off a small portion of Alden’s economic oblivion plan.
Time and time again these large shipments of Class A drugs turn up on our shores, but has anyone ever been successfully prosecuted here in connection with these finds?.
The industry you would see prosecuting and defending are the ones who are functionally using these exact drugs. Awhile back one organization issued metallic discount cards to staff for use at particular stores and restaurants and all everyone was happy about was being able to cut coke with it.
Coke is a wealthy person’s drug in Cayman so the people who are using will never get the same recourse as a regular person caught with a seed of weed.
Do these shipments actually get destroyed? Careful! Someone might break in to the police storage.
It doesn’t matter so much the price or street value of that which was found. What matters is that it didn’t get onto OUR streets. that’s ALL we need right now.
NEVER support the legalization or de-criminalization of chemically-derived or processed drugs like cocaine hydrochloride (cocaine powder), base cocaine (crack), methamphetamine, or synthetics like “Molly”, “spice” and many others! They are dangerous and deadly poisons!
Only Jah-given ganja – natural grown herb – should be decriminalized or legalized (in limited quantities and per certain conditions).
Yes, let’s just ignore the huge opioid in the room, you know the multi billion dollar industry that you can buy over the counter.
It’s interesting that each brick is meticulously weighed into 1kg parcels, yet there can be so much variance in the clustered number that comprise one of these “recovered“ beach groupers. 23kg in one bale…18kg in another…20kg in this one. It’s strange that these aren’t too of a more uniform dimension and weight and size to maximize cargo utilization…
Square grouper season is open
I thought square grouper season was always open around here.
The crime platform is stable in the Cayman Islands.
Excellent find and destruction of this evil drug. However, it’s not as evil as the dealers distributing it. Thankfully, lives have been saved with this find. We have more than enough to contend with at the moment with COVID -19 without this filth on our streets. Well done to all officers concerned.
excessive use of any pharmacueticals will be, I’m in for legalizing any drug that can be taxed and it all can be besides it will stop world crimes with stricted enforced laws. imagine if a doctor or nurse gives you the wrong drug you will perform differently or die, alcohol has been a number one killer and ganja has been number two couch potato drug “million miles from reality dont care for me dont care for you blast off from a spaceship”. drugs are drugs some are soft some are harsh all are additive like bad habits that are hard to break
What?
Hey !!!! couch potatoes are heroes now a days.
Do you want my autograph now that I’m a hero? Only one brown note and it’s yours!
CNS has inflated the value by breaking it down to grams as oppose to price per kilo. 52lbs is equivalent to 23.63 kilos . The price in the compass is correct and obviously based on wholesale value and not retail value. If you went by the value here on CNS, it would amount to 105k per kilo. There is No place on earth that can get that amount for a kilo of coke wholesale.
CNS Note: As stated clearly in the story ‘street value’
Who cares
CNS figure must be based on crack or gram amounts , and RCIPS figures based on kilo prices why they are so far apart, regardless glad it’s destroyed, well supposedly
Good deal. Glad it was found. Cocaine is an evil beotch. I am all for legalising and taxing ganja. I will never be in favor of legalising coke.
I get that it’s a terrible drug, but to tackle the real issue which is providing rehabilitation and destroying any drug cartels you must legalize it all. There is no difference from booze to cocaine. Both destroy lives and families for some. Some, can take both like a champ.
I would guess you’ve never dabbled with the white lady. I have long, long ago, and I know there is a huge and terrible difference between coke and booze. Coke is seductive, and will take a person to the very bottom.
Agree with you in part in that both require a very difficult rehab. Booze can be mitigated for the most part, and people eventually get away from it that need to. Cocaine will always want more and more and more and escalate, and that is what makes it so terrible. There is no mitigation with coke. There is either coke yes or coke no. Let me tell you it takes one HELL of a lot of sand to go from coke yes to coke no.
such a wonderful thing.
Yes, and I never had a problem with it. Some people can take drugs and not get addicted or over indulge. Best to control the whole process so the drug dealers are wiped out, the drugs are made with the safest chemicals and not cut with rat poison or who knows what, and most of all control the sell and tax it to create rehab centers and fund schools.
I get it’s an idea that one day most everyone will be on board with, just like pot is now.
Wow we have some deluded people around here.
Nope, just progressive thinkers. You are okay with opioids sold at pharmacies but not controlling all chemicals? Interesting.
But what about coke zero?
Surely the most nefarious of all, with it’s delicious sickly sweet syrup.
I actually think it’s worse for you.
Especially if you try snorting it.
Our financial industry is, so far, holding up amidst OECD blacklist and COVID-19, but all that changes if we fail another FATF checkup. Still no change in transshipment economy, gov’t corruption, laundering, and no meaningful kingpin arrests, even when their identities are known.
industry won’t hold up now that their supply has been seized
Beach curfew pays off!
Is this why we are not allowed on the beaches?
It’s one of many reasons.
Good job
$$$$ going to flow.
Wish I’d have found that!!!
Well done to the DOE enforcement officers for their find and the police for destroying the cocaine. Keep that horrid stuff off our streets!
Can anyone explain why the compass says it was $350,000 and CNS says 2.35 million? That sounds like more than can be attributed to shopping around to get a better deal …. has the dirty cop from the evidence locker struck again?
CNS: We believe that there was a typo in the RCIPS press release – or the street price of coke has plummeted drastically. However, we have not been able to confirm this yet.
You are pricing it at $100K a kilo. About twice the latest reported street price in London, which is on turn more expensive than the US.
In the Lobo case almost 2 kilos were involved. According to the Crown, Lobo paid $26K for the order, and the street value was put at $90K. That would put this load on circa $310K wholesale, just over a $1 million street.
What is the current street price of coke? Asking for a friend.
Ditto, my ”friend” needs a new job.
When I saw the Compass article quoting $350K for 52 lbs, my first thought was to make a better offer!
The price has plummeted. Would you want to be coked up and stuck spinning around at home?
It helps with homeschooling
