Turtle shell found in dumpster
(CNS): The shell of an adult green sea turtle was found in a dumpster at the weekend, which officials said appeared to be the remains from another poaching incident. The shell measured 106cm (41.7in) and likely belonged to a 300-400 pound turtle and a once valuable member of the critically endangered wild population. The discovery comes as the National Conservation Council is seeking input on the proposed sea turtle conservation plan, which includes measures to cut poaching.
Through 20 years of population monitoring, the Department of Environment has said that the two main threats to the species survival is artificial lighting on nesting beaches and illegal poaching. Without addressing these and other threats, the Cayman Islands sea turtle populations cannot survive.
Officials are urging people to visit the DoE website and see the draft plan. They can also take the survey or submit comments.

Greedy developers are more danger to the enviroment than poachers or the deep sea lobster takers.
What this country needs is the death penalty for murder and child rape and poaching! It might not stop the crime, but I guarantee it will stop repeat offenders!
There is no death penalty in the Cayman Islands. Get used to it.
There used to be many years ago. England stopped it.
Death penalty for poaching? This country surely doesnt need people like you here, maybe you should go back to the middle east with that type of mentality, or maybe that type of faith awaits you there i guess thats why you are here so just be grateful and keep your comments to yourself.
Don’t tell me when to go turtling and I won’t tell you how to live your life. A man has to eat.
Idiot
Scum
Yummy!!!!!
Dont tell me not to sell crack cocaine on the street and I wont tell you how to live your life. See how stupid you are?
CNS Why did you not state the dumpster was in West Bay where most of our poachers originate?
CNS: We didn’t actually know where the dumpster was. I know we could have asked, but when you have hundreds questions on your list, sadly you have to prioritise.
CNS My apologies,, I know you are kept very busy with a small staff, but as it was in the Compass, I thought for some reason you might be withholding the location.
CNS: No problem. We wish we had the staff to cover more.
You win an award for the most creepy comment of the year. Not got a girlfriend? No surprise if that’s how you think of women.
Disgusting!
When will you people learn………….
Dont worry the new marine parks will fix everything. What a joke.
Assuming you’re a man, most men would run away from a woman proficient in the use of a tape measure.
Assuming you’re a woman… I don’t need to run away from her because she’s proficient in the use of a tape measure because I’m more than sure that I can measure up. Plus it was just a little humor tbh but clearly you didn’t pick up on it, simple much? Further more the turtles are more important to me than her.
Not me!
Terrible!
Poachers bring shame to the islands. Unfortunately, the people who do this cannot see further than their own noses when it comes to the impact they have on our marine life. Utter pricks. This isn’t poaching to feed a family, it’s just greed.
I don’t think it’s greed. See the other article on this page about crack rocks being seized. Sadly, it’s to fuel drug addiction. Cocaine is a massive problem on this island, it’s more common than ganja these days.
If you’re buying food for consumption from a crackhead, your life has gone very wrong somewhere.
I doubt they’re drug addicts though. A crackhead going about his or her daily business couldn’t haul a whelk from the sea. This is more likely one of several consistent, well known poachers.
Most well known poachers are crackheads.
What is poaching? Is poaching to eat still poaching?
Yes. Poaching is stealing, period!!!!
Well I eat poached eggs 2 or 3 times a week and I’m not a crackhead or greedy.
Sell your crappy Honda, sell whatever you’re sending this post on, cash in your cheap and nasty 9k gold, leave the drugs and drink alone, then feed yourself. Easy really.
Free wifi bobo.
So you know something? Call popo.
There is no such thing as poaching, you people watch too many shows like finding nemo and gets caught up in your own feelings, what really distroys marine life is development and there are many poachers here in that department helping to erase the said marine life and dart is the biggest poacher of them all.
Arrest?
The dumpster?
