Lawyer bailed again in hit and run case
(CNS): A local lawyer has been bailed to return to court on 9 June after he made an appearance in Summary Court Monday in connection with charges of dangerous driving, leaving the scene of an accident and inflicting grievous bodily harm. Simon Courtney, who was already on bail in connection with other driving offences, appeared with his defence attorney, Laurence Aiolfi, who told the magistrate that he was waiting for CCTV footage from the police before he could move the case on and asked for an adjournment.
Courtney, who is employed by an offshore law firm, is accused of mowing down two tourists who were walking near to the Villas of the Galleon in January, when his Shelby Mustang mounted the pavement and hit the couple. They were both injured and the husband was airlifted to Miami with head injuries and has undergone surgery on his face. His wife was treated for head injuries at the George Town hospital.
Although Courtney was said to have stopped briefly at the scene, he left before the emergency personnel and police arrived.
Courtney has not yet stated whether he denies or accepts the allegations.
