Veteran senior local cop climbs up the ranks
(CNS): Brad Ebanks has been promoted to chief superintendent with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service by the Police Service Commission. Ebanks has been with the RCIPS for 36 years and has worked his way up the ranks. Along the way, he gained a full appreciation and understanding of the complexities and challenges of the multiple competing service demands faced by the local police.
In a release from the RCIPS, he was described as a “committed professional and a safe pair of hands” who is also an integral part of the senior leadership team taking the RCIPS service forward.
“Having served the Cayman Islands my entire policing career, across a variety of positions, I am honoured to have achieved this accomplishment and to progress into this role,” Ebanks said in the release. “A key priority for me is to build on our proficiencies as we continue to work together across the organisation to advance the RCIPS and ensure that the Cayman Islands remain a safe place to live, work, visit and do business.”
Acting Governor Franz Manderson, who is currently also acting as the chairman of the PSC, said he was pleased to see the success of this recruitment drive for this critical role in the RCIPS.
“I am particularly pleased that we were able to promote a highly capable Caymanian from within the ranks of the RCIPS,” he said. “I offer sincere congratulations to Chief Superintendent Ebanks on his well-deserved promotion.”
Police Commissioner Derek Byrne also congratulated him on the appointment and thanked the PSC for overseeing the interview and selection process.
The PSC is an independent body established in 2021 that is responsible for appointments and promotions within the RCIPS for ranks of superintendent and higher, as well as the good governance of the RCIPS.

just because he is a born caymanian, bad minded people.
Great news Brad.
West Bay is still a mess tho.
The people cannot relate to officers like John Crow attitude.
Non public meetings there in forever.
No developing of good relationships with residents.
What are his qualifications?
hope Franz gets an Oscar for all this acting he’s doing. Would be great if he could play the part of a competent civil servant in his next role.
Congratulations, Uncle Brad. This is a promotion well deserved by a Caymanian and thankfully you are being recognized for your achievements. You have put in the time and effort. Ignore the nay-sayers. If they can do a better job, then, let them try. It is clear that outside forces do not understand the dedication that it takes to continue on this path. Caymanians need to stop beating down one another (and expats for that matter) and start uplifting each other!! The level of ignorance is utterly disgraceful. There needs to be more people in a position of power who actually have a backbone. Stop hating and find something constructive to do with your time.
Best appointment in a long time. Brad Ebanks has proven himself time and time again.
An appointment that looks good.
So did Buel Braggs’ appointment 9:53.
In 2020 this individual was made responsible for the Firearm Response Unit, K-9 Unit, Operational Support Unit, Air Operations Unit, Traffic and Roads Policing, Community Policing Department and Uniform Operations across the Cayman Islands.
In Oct 2022 he was promoted to Superintendent and now 6 months later, Chief Superintendent.
Can we honestly say that in the last 3 years he’s done a successful job? –
If not, then why is he being promoted, and why so quickly?
The very fact that he had several portfolios rather than them being shared tells you everything. Zero strategic thinking in RCIPS. And some truly awful micro-management.
Because of the “Peter principle”.
Easy …… he’s Caymanian.
I cannot believe how people are tearing up a Caymanian! You show me ONE officer in the RCIPS who has been perfect? I rather see my own people in charge, even tho some are real problems! But a Caymanian in the RCIPS has been recognized and promoted and y’all just hating! How are we gonna get rid of the English if we don’t support local? Congratulations Bobo! Don’t worry about the sharks, we like Barra anyway!
The criticism is not because he’s Caymanian, we do need more of those…it’s because he sucks at every responsibility he’s so far been charged to oversee. Crime up. Traffic as bad as ever.
Spot on.

Wait til the Police Service Commission publish their promotion results. Then ask the same question.”

It’s unfortunate that a good officer is put in this position due to the lack of leadership by the commissioner tying the hands of his commanders with his intense style of micro-management.
The fact that Brad was promoted twice in less than six months along with other recent promotions where another officer was promoted from sergeant (acting inspector) to substantive inspector and then to superintendent while on probation tells you of the monumental failure of clear strategic leadership by this failed commissioner.
All at the 11th hour on his way out the door or in an effort to stay beyond his date of expiration..
This in spades. Although XXXX is actually a decent guy. But I see where you’re coming from.
This commissioner is hell bent on destroying the Rcips before he leaves. And what’s the point of the PSC. The good people of Cayman deserve better.
Why!? Because he decided to live up to his mandate by employing more caymanians to the various ranks and not placing English officers in these roles like David and the others alike!? The Cayman Islands is the only place in the world where a non native be a police officer.
LOL – Member of Parliament doesn’t get breathalyzed after crashing into a stationary light pole late at night. Person in charge gets promoted.
#thatscayman
what about poor Baron ?
the worst road fatalities in over a decade ?
the numerous uniform officers suspended and the misdemeanours we never even hear about ?
robberies and gun crime highest for years ?
the list could go on…. all under the current watch. success, oh please.
Stop the nonsense and do actual work to get promoted. No cops ever on the streets.
Because he’s done such a great job deploying the Traffic Department?
