New voter list increases by just 65

(CNS): The new list of electors published by the Elections Office on Tuesday has just a few dozen more voters than the July list, even though the 2025 General Election and a three-question referendum will take place in around seven months. While the premier hasn’t yet set a date for the poll, it is expected to be in April. This means that new voters who register by 1 January will be able to vote unless the elections are held earlier than 1 April.

The electoral roll published on 30 September has 65 more voters than the list published on 1 July, up from 23,464 to 23,529. However, at least another 6,000 people are eligible to vote but have not yet registered. Voters who registered by 1 October will be on the 1 January list.

The Elections Office has begun a voter drive as the clock ticks down on the 1 January deadline for voters to make the 1 April register. The government is unlikely to call a general election earlier than 1 April, but if it does, it is now too late for new voters to make that list.

See the new voter list and all other election-related information on the
Elections Office website.

I registered so I can vote for Andre. If you’re lucky and live in the right area there will be a couple of candidates who are worth your vote this election. Conversely, no doubt there will also be the usual assortment of convicted criminals who are worth voting against.

Jay Ebanks put 2 ladies in a tshirt that said they were from the North Side constituency office and they were telling people that they wanted to update their records. I asked for what??? They were wanting copies of ids to help register people for the upcoming election. I heard that they even asked some if they would support Jay.
How can they be allowed to run around getting personal data for this purpose????

I have to laugh at the broken-circle reasoning: I will not vote because no one good to vote for (months before nominees declare) – I like who nominated but now I can’t vote for them because I did not register. Just be honest and say you don’t care so you don’t register.

If voting made a difference, they wouldn’t let us do it. Nothing put flip flop wanna be politicians here. No moral values, just greed for the $$.

I don’t blame people to an extent. Jury duty is torture due to how unorganized they are in there. The staff are rude & court cases are drawn out with no regard for jury circumstances. We have work & families to care for. We can’t be in & out court all hours of the day. If I could remove my name from the electoral list I would in a heart beat for my mental health. Jury duty should be optional & many more people would register to vote.

I tried to get my name removed, was told no, unless you serve time in Northward, leave the island for an extended amount of time or die…. Those are the only circumstances that will remove your name from the list.
Jury duty is the absolute worst

Caymanians PLEASE register. Elentions.ky, Cayman Islands Elections Office or call the Elections Office 949-8047 for guidance. You can download the forms or ask for them to be emailed. You can take photos or use scanning apps to scan and return your forms and documents. No Notary nor JP signatures are needed. No office visit if you’re not up to it. Or…last resort CONTACT the MP in your Constituency/District for help. (You have the right not to answer questions about who you voted for last elections or will vote for in 2025); MPs are lawfully still required to assist).

My hope is that the Cayman Islands Government would not call earlier elections prior to April 1, 2025, not giving Caymanians rightful opportunities to register and to vote. Many of our young adults would be eligible to vote by the next quarter; they deserve the rights. I know parents whose students are children/overseas in different countries whose children/students are preparing to register; they deserve the rights There are many adults locally of varying ages, who have made up their minds to register for the first time; they deserve the rights. There would be no reason (so far) to call earlier elections. Give Caymanians the chance.

They have had their chance and still they elect imbeciles, drug dealers, women beaters, drunk drivers and grifters.

      Direct Rule now.

The form clearly states that you must submit originals. Not sure where you are getting the idea that a scanning app copy will be accepted. Did the Registry confirm that to you directly?

In GTC or West Bay west, or Bodden town East or west , your vote won’t make any difference to the hordes of Jamaican voters.
In any other district you can at least vote for a candidate who does not want us to be Jamaicanised, thereby enabling a strong opposition to the Independence dreamers.

@1.44pm It was possible to register at the voter registration drive last week that was held in the Govt. Admin. Bldg. I took my original documents with me for checking and did not have to submit them further. The ladies assisting were very efficient and the process took less than 5 minutes.

Sadly I don’t believe that the registration drive was particularly well publicized and I was one of 5 people who registered that day.

If only registering to vote was as simple as just applying. Oh no. You have to provide them with your birth certificate, status letter and passport. And they only accept originals. Given my history with Cayman Island government entities routinely losing documentation supplied to them, I am a little ore than reluctant to hand those over for some indefinite period whilst they decide whether or note to register me. Its not the law, its just some bureaucratic rule the Register has made up. And why exactly is it even needed? Do they think you could obtain status without having proven your identity and provide reams of this information already? Why cant they just look at a photo id and check your name against a register of status holders (which incidentally, the government is required to maintain as a matter of law).? Could it be that they dont even have one? Or are they just so inefficient or lazy that they cant be bothered?

I was thinking of registering, but yes this type of stupidity is what would prevent me. I once had to supply immigration with a notarised copy of a certificate they issued to me for another purpose. Doesn’t get any more stupid.

Talk to half a dozen different people in the same department in ANY department on these islands and you’ll get half a dozen different rules.

They make it up as they go along. UNLESS, you happen to be old as hell, or know them on a first name basis then you’re VIP service all the way baby! Corruption starts there.

you just show them the docs, they make a copy there and then and give them back to you. they don’t keep them.

    • Anonymous says:

Why doesn’t Immigration just inform the Register of Electors of the names and addresses of anyone granted status, so the can be added directly? They have already been through all the identity checking, and as you are entitled to be registered on being granted status why not just do it automatically instead of having to build in a second, time consuming step? No one forces you to vote, so its hardly an imposition> And if you have some reason that you really, really don’t want to be on the electoral register – lets be charitable and say its because of your strong views on confidentiality rather than wanting to avoid jury duty! – they could simply have a check box on the status application form where you could opt out from registration if it meant that much to you.

I just registered. it was easy and they don’t keep your documents just make a copy there and then. I was in and out the elections office in 5 minutes. Couldn’t fault it to be honest.

It is sad to know that 6,000 people did not register to vote, many just to avoid their civic duty to be jurors. Yet there will be griping for the next four years about results of the election they chose not to participate in.

On the contrary, most of us non voters know precisely what to expect. Yet another corrupt government selected from a recycled pool. Now we also include a convicted drug dealer and woman beater and a ‘premier’ with 266 votes. As for the ‘civic duty’ that is just another name for a circus where you are called to somewhere you can’t park and when you do find parking you are sent home again.

Once the government gets power they don’t give a crap about your vote and you end up having a premier with 266 votes. The system is truly broken and corrupt when a convicted drug dealer gets to spend public money and another that is in and out of court for violence and sex crimes.
