Road diversion, Thursday, 19 July

(CNS): Traffic in the capital is likely to be worse than usual this afternoon as a traffic diversion has been put in place to accommodate more work on the George Town Revitalization Project in the downtown area. The diversion was put in place at 10:30am on Friday, some four hours before officials notified the public, and will remain in place until 6:00pm on Saturday evening.

The diversion will start at the median at the junction of the CIBC and Elizabethan Square to facilitate work in that area. For more information, updates and advisories on this protracted project visit the relevant social media pages Facebook.com/GTRevitalisation or Instagram.com/gtrevitalisation

This was supposed to be a 6 month project. Where are we now…9 months and ticking??

The only people winning are the contractors. They are laughing at us on the way to the bank.

Another project to funnel our tax dollars into the wrong pockets. Has anyone seen the results of the recent “beautification” project? They’ve painted the tops of the concrete traffic dividers blue. Like, that is the entire “beautification” project. Just adding blue paint to traffic dividers. Who the heck approved that one??

This maybe a silly comment but bare with me.

Why are we doing this while not focusing on Cruise Tourism? Why are we doing this now while not figuring our where cars will go in GT?

I would think creating a walking district to help facilitate tourism traffic would go hand in hand with trying to enhance our cruise tourism product. What am I missing?

I would think that you would look to create more parking in GT before choking it off even more.

To me it looks a bit haphazardly thought out.

I ask what exactly is everyone trying to do to George Town center? close businesses? drive people out? cause as much chaos as possible for probably 12 months or more? drive up rents on completion. it is already a ghost town never mind when this botched ideas complete. good lord.

These roadworks are an mitigated disaster and have been for over six months. The construction company continues to dig up the road and not paving the work they have done Can we have some form of explanation as I think it unlikely George Town will be free of this crap before next Christmas.
Perchance the contractor is related to a politician.
Far for me to stir up the shit.

Hancock… the explanation is simple…. It is a Public Works project.
      Time doesn’t matter .
      Cost doesn’t matter.
Managed by civil servants not qualified to undertake the task.
Civil servants not accountable to anyone.

It will now take even longer as Robbus Construction has been awarded another contract. Where will it end.

Why is it so difficult to advise the traffic department before these interruptions are being carried out. This seems to happen much too often. Also wouldn’t it be more productive to do these types of work in the night’s?

There shouldn’t even be any roads in GT. Make it walking only with parking on the edge.

That suggestion has been bantered around for the last thirty years or so. It makes too much sense so it definitely won’t happen.
