Burglars strike at GT plaza and BT church
CNS): Police are investigating several burglaries that happened last week in both George Town and Bodden Town. On 5 November four businesses at a shopping plaza on North Sound Road, near the Butterfield Roundabout, reported being broken into overnight and cash stolen from registers. Later that morning a church on Hirst Road reported that sound equipment had been taken during a break-in sometime between Saturday, 31 October, and Thursday.
Both matters are under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call George Town CID at 949-4222 or Bodden Town CID at 947-2220.
If someone who feels they have been denied a good opportunity then thinks that gives them a licence to steal, then I suspect they are not the kid of person I would have wanted to hire in the first place.
Are you seriously suggesting that even if Caymanians are “denied good opportunities” they or anyone else should resort to breaking into a church and stealing? I firmly believe Caymanians should be given the first right of employment in their own country. But Let’s not forget every business is at least 60% owned by a Caymanian (as per law) so collaborative efforts need to begin with Caymanian business owners wanting to employ fellow Caymanians.
Let me ask you something. If you or your family were hungry, would you dig deep and work wherever you could to feed them, or would you take the easy way and steal/rob/mug?
This has little to do with the government or any of their policies. It has to do with criminal opportunists, and quite likely drugs.
Don’t give these crooks a pass. This is unacceptable behaviour. Not allowed for any reason.
I agree with you, Beaumont, but the law is rarely enforced here in the Caymans. The question is,
“Why not”?????
I’m sorry you find a reason to justify crime, Mr. George. The folk from which I am descended would never accept poverty as an excuse to rob or steal. They would see that condition as a reason to reach higher.
It starts with education.
And contraception.
And abortion
Maybe they were just bad sperms.
Or bad eggs.
Or fair job opportunities instead of using trivial reasons to hire friends from abroad.
Lack of classroom scholars does not equate to dunce caps or unwilling unfruitful conversion in Cayman. Anybody been here longer than 10 years should know that. Anything less is disrespectful and a few cherry-picked examples shouldn’t speak for the many, deserving of a fair shot with no Plan B’s.
3.50 Hmmm… trivial reasons. Like being able to read and write properly? Like turning up for work on time all the time? Like not shouting ‘I’m a Caymanian and you can’t fire me’? Sort those 3 reasons out first and maybe your rizla thin argument will hold a little more water.
Just the beginning. Thanks to Alden’s economic recovery “plan “

How do I feel about this? I feel that Grand Cayman has a lot of thieves!
I feel Cayman are too easy on criminals period, need more harsh punishment laws and to carry them out.
We all know what nationality did this. If you want to prove otherwise bring them to justice.
Nah. Our system just grants them status.
Yes, let us know this a week later with bare minimum information – no cctv footage nothing then ask us if we can help. Not blaming CNS, RCIPS is very slack when it comes to putting out information.
