CoP: Cayman complying with curfew
(CNS): Police Commissioner Derek Byrne has said that, on the whole, the community is being compliant with the curfew and crime is also stable across the Cayman Islands with no spikes. Police are out in large numbers, making for high visibility, including support from the RCIPS helicopter. There were two burglaries on Wednesday night but no other serious crimes.
Byrne said that over the first 15 hours of the current curfew, 85 vehicles had been stopped. Sixteen people were in breach of the curfew, most of whom were talked to by officers, who explained the curfew restrictions and warned they could be prosecuted. However, only two were arrested because they had committed other offences.
The commissioner said that the police were operating from a “stable platform” and managing the curfew without any significant problems. So far, they have encountered very little resistance.
However, several pictures were posted on social media on Thursday capturing early morning exercisers, paddle boarders and swimmers outside and apparently breaching curfew. Commissioner Byrne has not yet said how his officers will be tackling those issues but has urged everyone in Cayman to call 911 if they see anyone breaching curfew.
The RCIPS Air Operations Unit crew on X-Ray One, posted on Twitter that the police helicopter had flown multiple support missions since the curfew began, and urged the community to keep supporting the stay at home directives.

Why are all of the pool companies still out and about?
On the first night of the curfew all was quiet except for the helicopter in the air above us. Within 20 mins of it moving on, no less than 15 cars passed my yard.
Last night a car came and parked on the grass verge by my yard and switched it’s lights off. Minutes later the helicopter arrived. After the helicopter moved on, back on went the lights and the vehicle moved on.
Today we are meant to be on soft curfew. Roads are busy as ever and I have lost count of the marl trucks going by.
I think all is not quite so rose-tinted as it may look.
“…we’re facing existential threat..”
This is nature’s way to bring all ecosystems in balance by eliminating the cause of disbalance.
Don’t believe in global warming?
Don’t believe in deforestation?
Don’t believe in overtourism?
Don’t believe in plastic pollution?
Don’t believe in recycling?
Don’t believe in overconsumption?
You better start believing.
Want to bring more cruise ships to a tiny island? Mother Nature or The higher power, whatever it is, said NO!
Gaia hypothesis:
the theory, put forward by James Lovelock, that living matter on the earth collectively defines and regulates the material conditions necessary for the continuance of life. The planet, or rather the biosphere, is thus likened to a vast self-regulating organism.
Let’s not forget the small matter of an assault at a beachfront bar.
According to the Constitution of the Cayman Islands, the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions is responsible for the following:
To institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person by any court in respect of any offence against any Law in force in the Cayman Islands.
To take over and continue any criminal proceedings that have been instituted or undertaken by himself of herself or any other person or authority.
To discontinue at any stage before judgment is delivered any such criminal proceedings instituted or undertaken by himself of herself or any other person or authority.

The car wreck was breaching the lockdown? Anyone arrested?
He was responding to a family medical emergency according to reports.
Start arresting and fining anyone who breaches. Stop the nonsense that goes on here where a warning is all you get, for any crime. Bs as usual.
This has been eye opening. Very good to know which of your neighbors would have collaborated with the Nazi’s.
V, you really are an idiot.
I don’t blame them one bit. Their (your?) desire to exercise does not exceed the greater good. We are facing an existential threat that could kill people. The elected democratic government has made decisions they feel can help save lives and get us back to a sense of normalcy faster than almost any other county in the world. They have given these measures legal standing and for some people to carry on as if their own selfish needs are greater than the law is not only unfair to law-abiding residents, it is dangerous to us all. If you think the people who are outraged over this irresponsible and selfish behavior are Nazis, then you really should take the first opportunity you can to leave us and find people more to your ilk.
Great pic! Comforting to hear helicopter flying overhead, thank you guys and all service personnel out there. All take care of yourselves too!
Thanks for pic CNS, fab picture. Thanks helicopter crew, comforting to hear you flying overhead every evening! To all other services, big thank you too and take care of yourselves!
CNS: If you click on the link in the story to the X-Ray One Twitter feed, there are more good pix.
Yes we now see the beauty of these islands unfortunately under these dire circumstances Hopefully our leaders take heed from it and stop this very foolish destruction and overpopulation plans they are constantly promoting.Had we not gone down this foolish path draconian measures such as curfews and rationing would not be needed Its hope the government will take steps now to remedy or improve this situation Cayman.
The amount of fish I see in the canal I live on is awesome. Limiting boat tours could do wonders to keep this place pristine.
More birds around the yard too.
A violation of our most basic human rights, which will not go unpunished.
The goverment was forced to have this 24hr curfew as a result of the business communities pressure to keep their greedy members up and running.
Government had to show who is the boss.
Do not blame your government, blame the disgusting business owners.
Fake news
Tell Alden must name them, or it didn’t happen.
Very ironic that health freaks are breaking curfew, are they hoping to get it, spread it? These idiots need locking up not the mamby pamby treatment!
Some countries are shooting curfew violators on sight!
We’re need ten days of curfew please!!
Go for it, who’s stopping you exactly?
Kudos to the RCIPS!
For the first time ever: accidentally excelling by having nothing to respond to!
As long as people are only warned. They are going to break the rules of law, they need to.be punished when they are caught. Given a ticket of a fine say one thousand ci dollars for the first offence,Second offence 2 thousand, third office 3 thousand etc. And given 3 days to pay the fine otherwise the fine doubles. That would get.people to stop.nreaking the rules of the law. Otherwise people are going on the road. Saying I only going to get a warning. So I am going.
Yeah, like one infamous person who wasn’t even warned when he “grabbed” a casino employee, then he proceeded to break the rules of law and still was neither warned, nor arrested and prosecuted.
for what? patroling an island on lockdown???….zzzzzzzzz
