Air arrivals: the harsh reality

Cayman News ServiceA CNS reader writes: It’s a pity the Hon Minister wasn’t a bit more forthcoming with some of the arrival stats that don’t make quite such happy reading. UK arrivals – 6,808, down just under 10% on the first six months of 2016 and stuck at slightly below the same level they have been for the past decade.

    Wonder how accurate the figures are? I always travel to/from UK via MIA to avoid using that awful BA flight.

    That’s because BA have the monopoly and charge outrageous fares to Cayman. CITA should be seeking to encourage new airlines from the UK and Europe in order to force prices down and make the Cayman Islands more appealing to over 500 million potential passengers. And don’t forget, unlike the US, most UK and European citizens have passports and do travel on a regular basis with a 4 week minimum vacation entitlement.
    Where we have catastrophically lost, the Bahamas have gained, and ironicallly they use the same aircraft that comes here.

      The status quo exists to keep the riff raff out. Lower the prices and we might get the belligerent soccer hooligan types. Recall the days of the BA contracted Caledonia flights? Need I say more?
