Bryan offers to support coalition
Kenneth Bryan
(CNS): Kenneth Bryan, who was successfully returned to office after an acrimonious election fight with the former finance minister in George Town Central, has said that he may join the coalition government and that he has offered his services to the PPM and is awaiting a response. Bryan, who is currently facing a seat on the opposition bench, has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday evening to ask his constituents if they want him to become part of the new administration if his offer is accepted by the PPM-led government.
As the twists continue in the aftermath of the very uncertain result delivered by more than 15,000 voters, Bryan is now seeking to support the coalition and boost the number of Independents on the government benches. He told CNS, however, that if the government decides not to accept his offer, he intends to speak to his constituents on Tuesday night about his commitment to them regardless and the efforts he will make to serve “from the opposition benches” if that’s what happens.
The premier has so far shown a willingness to be inclusive of any Independents wishing to support his government. However, Bryan, a former PPM member, was sacked by Alden McLaughlin from his post as political assistant to the premier after he was arrested on assault charges, and obvious animosity still exists between the young MLA and the Progressives.
The PPM may also be concerned about Bryan’s connection to Dr Steve Tomlinson, as there is a strong feeling that his part in this election was a disruptive influence and not one for good. They believe his decision to try to undermine the party system by funding random and very different Independent candidates without any apparent policy strategy was merely an attempt to control government from the outside.
The wealthy former hospital owner and surgeon, who now owns a share in the local paper The Cayman Reporter, wholeheartedly backed Bryan’s campaign. While questions remain over which other succesful Independents can thank Tomlinson for their seat, there is no question that Bryan was dependent on the doctor. Tomlinson, however, has said he will have no power over any of the MLAs elected to government and will not be seeking to inappropriately influence them.

Someone questioned Kenneth education, c’mon now. What education does McKeeva have and he was the Premier.
Kenneth has made mistakes and he is obviously still growing and learning. He asked GTC to give him a chance so he now has his chance, let’s see what he does.
He really does need to stay away from the personal attacks, take the high road.
If he is truly about doing what is best for his constituents, it is not about him so put aside his personal grudges and move on.
He seriously didn’t expect a seat at the table with a PPM led govt, not because they are spiting him but because they don’t trust, even less than McKeeva which says a lot.
He should have never planted that seed in his constituents’ minds about being left behind, it just causes unnecessary tension. Everything that happens now they will see as a slight against them.
GTC you voted Kenneth in over Marco because you wanted a change, here is your change.

CNS, when was Kenneth Bryan ever and MLA to be returned to office? He used to be Aldens assistant, he was never previously voted in office
CNS: “Returned to Office” is an expression that means “elected”. Similarly, “returning officers” are not officers that are coming back but are election officials.

With all the negative comments about this man one would think he is a foreigner, but guess what,”he born ya”. So suck it up,just pray that he can make a useful contribution.
This is just a oublicity stunt. Kenneth was not asked to join and now he wants to pretend that he wants to work with PPM.

I attended Kenneth’s tonight and of course because he was not given a YES to join the government all he did was again speak negatively about the PPM. Kenneth please grow the hell up and stop your quest on trying to encourage a war in GT. As a representative you should now be speaking positive encourgement to your people. Why would you say to the people that your fear is that The central GT constituents will be spited against by the Government ? Left behind ? Please understand the Government is now made up if mature leaders who have come together for the betterment of all Cayman including Central GT. Grow up man, enough with your personal agenda.

Obviously you are young and the coaching that you received from the T Factor didn’t pay off and as they say you may have won the battle but lost the war…
All I have to say is know your place Kenneth… and next time run a clean campaign and not the dirt that you considered to be a campaign in the 2017 elections. Marco was the clear choice in GTC and one day people will realize this and unfortunately our country will have to pay for this misguided, misinformed and mislead events that oucurred in GTC during the 2017 election.
I hope that this is a lesson learned and if you run again that you consider that you should only run your campaign on what is best for the country and and not on personal attacks. You have now been placed in to a position that will make it next near impossible for you to deliver on all the campaign promises that you made during your campaign. How will this benefit the people which elected you to only be on the backbench, object to all of polices which the government brings to the house but not actually be able to influence and develop these polices. My hope is that you will take the next four years to study the good and the bad, watch and learn, understand what it means to be a statesman and to put our country first. If you are able to accomplish these things you will be a better representative and person come 2021.
Just keep it clean moving forward, find solutions and not just find problems with what is presented by the government as if this continues you unfortunately are apart of the problem and serve no real purpose.

Austin criticized everyone for years, that was his job. But did you notice that in all of Kenneth’s debates on Cayman27 that the only ad shown was Kenneth’s ad bashing PPM?
Who bashed and fought the PPM and specifically Alden more than Mckeeva? It’s ok for Alden and Mac to make up and work together in the best interest of the country but not with Kenneth? Really?

Seeing as I am not Alden the pot /kettle slur doesn’t really work. And yes, Alden is working with a man he openly despises – and is in litigation with. But I can at least see what he got for that devil’s bargain. Bryan, not so much.
I am so glad that Dr Tomlinson and Kenneth’s true colors came to light by the end of the negotiation process. We don’t need people like that anywhere in our Government. They represent their own interests, not the island’s.

The Kenneth Bryan who I have come to know is a bright, caring, intelligent, young Caymanian with a heart for his people who does not deserve such disparaging remarks.
Like most of us, he comes from humble beginnings but in spite of this, he has made a man of himself and today was sworn in as an MLA. Can you imagine how proud his family must be?
May I remind you that, like Kenneth, I too grew up in GT Central and later lived most of my adult life on Crewe Road and Tropical Gardens which are also part of GT Central. We both love and understand the wonderful people in this constituency and as the saying goes, love begets love.
Kenneth’s victory has been bitter-sweet to both of us. How many times we wished that Marco had run in another constituency! But I guess the PPM would have it no other way. I wish both young men the very best.
Thanks to the more than 7000 voters, some 44% of those who voted, who grasped the virtue in my message. You certainly did all you could and if only The Government of National Unity works, history might just record that the independent movement had something to do with it.
