UK government fails on real transparency, says TI
(CNS): A new report by Transparency International has found that while the UK government may be considered one of the most open in the world, the system that supports that transparency is failing. Described by the NGO as “ticking all the right boxes” over public spending transparency, British officials are failing to provide full and open scrutiny over how taxpayers’ money is being spent. Transparency International found that in over a third of public contracts, it is unclear to whom they have been awarded.
While the UK government has placed significant pressure in recent years on the Cayman Islands and other overseas territories to ensure greater transparency over local public spending, it appears that it still has to get its own house in order.
The TI report, entitled Counting the Pennies, found that public finance transparency is much better in the UK than many other places but poor quality, inaccessible and redacted data is preventing the public, journalists and investigators from scrutinising public spending. With 35% of contracts not indicating who the contractor is and more than 81,000 different descriptions given to transactions, the report said that analysis of the data was near impossible.

The Greatest and the most despicable hypocrites on this planet.Yet they prance around preaching to others there is nothing lower than that. Allardyce will soon get his Knighthood when this passes.
Actually, we haven’t heard of him fiddling any kiddies so a Knighthood may not be in his future – poor chap.
Heard Allardyce is available to head up the forthcoming commission to right this wrong.

better late then never….thought you had disappeared. Hoped, rather.
I am not perfect but I still have to teach and discipline my children. The fact that I have my flaws does not mean they do not have to listen to me. They are the “mother Country” and we are responsible to them. We should do our best to work with them in our best interest and not just start screaming they have no right because they are imperfect also.
The UK has now built so many convenient get outs into their FOI laws that it is virtually impossible to get information from some public authorities – I speak from experience here.
Sounds accurate…the Governor’s Office here in Cayman is also a strong advocate in denying transparency!
Field day for Whodatis!
Far too many. Always have been. Just needed someone to open the eyes of the people. Through you I see my work here is done.

And not one of them a Cayman issue…so good to have perfect long range vision and rose tinted local glasses. I will buy you a magnifying glass for your birthday, but you wont like what you see. Or will ignore it and pretend its not there.
Mother needs to get her house in order before she tries to lecture Cayman
Does not excuse Cayman from not doing the right thing. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
Mother is not a parasitic paradise for the rich to immorally avoid their taxes.
That’s weird 7.13 ‘cos Cayman isn’t either.
No, mother is just the vessel through which the immoral can continue to pillage all other parts of the world of their natural resources enabling the “riches” of so many of her mainland citizens and corporations.
