House fire in Cruz Lane, George Town, 31 July 2916

(CNS): A 37-year-old woman from George Town pleaded not guilty to a charge of arson when she appeared in court Friday. Latecia Jarrett denied setting the fire which destroyed a wooden property on Cruz Lane in George Town at the end of last month, rendering an extended family, including children, homeless. Two police officers who were the first officials on the scene of the fire were treated for smoke inhalation but no one else was injured in the blaze, even though the family was home when it started.

Jarret was remanded in custody until later this month, when a trial date is expected to be set for November.
