I cannot count the number of times over the last few years that I have had near misses because a truck has discharged its load in front of me.
Anyone surprised? These bus drivers are perfect for a casting call in the next Mad Max movie.
The bus drivers here are the worst drivers on the road, followed closely by the taxi drivers, followed by the drunks in third place. Without knowing anything about this accident I would be willing to bet the bus driver failed to give way or pulled out into traffic without indicating. We’ve all had to make emergency stops when a “bus” loaded with tourists pulls out directly in front of us without warning, it was just a matter of time before someone’s reactions weren’t up to the task.
You know what’s really scary is that some sober drivers are less coordinated at the wheel than some drunk drivers. When you’ve got lipstick in one hand and cellphone in the other it becomes quite tricky to keep both hands on the wheel.
Which is precisely why I have learnt to drive with my feet.
It would be fine if we would have professional drivers from other countries then Cayman or Jamaica.
the operators of the busses drive like crazy people and the police just sit by and watch
often I am overtaken by them and I am going the speed limit then they slam o the brakes to pick someone up no indicator and then they just pull out
I imagine an accident won’t fix the stupidity until a whole bus load gets killed
and for that matter I see those people squished into the busses sitting on each others laps
whata shame
The so call Public Transport Unit what is their purpose? I do believe they need to revamp that unit and put people that will work and enforce the laws. I have never seen an inspector out checking or the Director for that matter . Who is the director now anyway? Get off their BUTT and work be seen.
Cayman seems to be good at replicating the bad of other failed states in the region.
This will only get worse.
While I do not know the details surrounding this particular case, I do know that something has to be done about this “bus system” we have in Cayman.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why we are hellbent on replicating this mini-van system that is so deplorable at best.
Public transport should be just that!! What we have racing around now is nothing more than greedy people trying to compete with each other for every dollar.
Perhaps if our so-called leaders had to ride on them they would be more inclined to act? ?
For a supposedly world class destination, I am embarrassed by this third world application of public transport.
I’m from a third world country and the bus system is better than here. I totally agree with your post but the bus system here is far worse than a third world country. Something must be done urgently.
Has anyone thought about the school buses, or seen one driven around an roundabout? Something needs to be done about those drivers as well. We have some serious problems with drivers on the roads.
I’ve seen them stop, to let children off, In the middle of a roundabout. I’ve been overtaken by them, whilst already exceeding the speed limit myself.
And why don’t school buses have seat belts? I cannot understand how people let their children ride on those death traps.
You should take a ride in one. Enjoy the view of the tarmac through the rotting floor. Do check the fire extinguishers while on board. See if they have been serviced in the last five years. I dare ya.
Well island heritage had a car parked on the roundabout this morning! Stupidity does not begin to describe why someone would think its ok to do this or why for that matter their curre t marketing ploy of distracting drivers while they are driving is a good idea.
We are to close to the US so the word “public” is explained as socialism.
Drivers of buses and dump trucks are paid by the load, so the more dangerous they drive the more money they make.
And we allow Jamaicans on our road. Have you ever been in Jamaica ? Driving a car there is suicide.
