(CNS) Police said that a file relating to the case against a 49-year-old man for dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident in January is with the director of public prosecutions for consideration. The man is alleged to have lost control of his red Ford Mustang (Shelby) and mowed down an American couple who were walking along the pavement near Villas of the Galleon on the West Bay Road.

The hit and run happened just after 5:00pm on Sunday 25 January. It is understood that a married couple visiting the island suffered head injuries. The man was airlifted to the United States, where he had reconstructive surgery to his face, and his wife was admitted to the Cayman Islands Hospital. They are said to both be recovering.

Officers arrested the driver of the car on Monday and he was bailed to return to George Town Police Station at a later date, but so far no charges have been brought.

What a sad commentary on our judicial system, the attending officers, and supervising departments that it should take two months to conclude the most obvious catalog of infractions.
